Nice idea, but when I checked the description of the shield it had no outstanding features. So in my mind that shield was a smooth as an elf's face.

A shield that isn't completely round or elliptic may have sharp corners that could  penetrate flesh if thrusted into the chest of a small child by a bad-ass adventurer.
Otherwise, there's always the possibility of one of her ribs breaking and entering her heart.

Ah I forgot about those spiky things of doom.
Hell one time I thought up a shield which was really a big motorized sawblade.

For me, it would have to be the torture of a family of peasants. My "hero" started with some playful pinching and eye gouging before moving on to the systematic crippling of each of their limbs, stopping only when they passed out and resuming each time they regained consciousness.

Also, lashing off a mothers leg with my trusty whip and using said leg to beat her child to death was pretty evil.
