Sordland can no longer look passively as a massive invasion force is building up upon its borders. A preemptive strike is in order.

Deploy in 7, 8, 10
move 3->8, 6->7, 9->10, 9->8.
Attack 7(4)->53, 8(3)->53, 10(2)-> 53.
No construction this turn.

I tried to play chess but two of my opponents were playing competitive checkers as a third person walked in with Game of Thrones in hand confused cause they thought this was the book club.

And so the war begins. If they manage atomic theory they will have a huge research buff. (You might want to defortify 4 though, given Sol is in the area. Well, are you giving that land up?)

The soldiers of democracy held the line! The casaulties on both sides were staggering, but Sordlanders managed to stage several well organized retreats to preserve almost half of their forces, meaning that most of the dead were on the side of Hibernia.

Despite the lost battle, the People's Republic Army already moved most of its reserves to the borderlands.

The Government of Hibernia made a public announcement on the day of the brutal, decimating combat in the northern borderlands. Smoke rose, corpses littered the ground, the bunkers and fortifications lay cracked and mangled, the green hills replaced with mud dyed red with the blood of thousands upon thousands of the dead. As the survivors gathered the bodies and watched the retreating forces disappear, they felt nothing. Nothing except pure, condensed terror, and an unspeakable dread for what each and every single one of them knew was about to come. In their futures, they saw death, they saw blood, they saw slaughter. Maybe it would last a few months. Maybe it would last years. But they knew, it would be the death of all of them. As the public officials gathered together and took their seats, they faced the crowd with sweat running down their faces, dark chasms carved beneath their eyes by exhaustion, and voices quivering in fear. They spoke.

To the peoples of the south, and the east, we have a message. Sordland will not end their conquest with us. They will not rest until every corner of our lands are theirs. We can fight them now, together, or we can die one at a time. Hibernia cannot stand against Sordland on its own. No-one, no country or people can stand against the Sordlanders on their own. They will consume Hibernia, destroy our culture, erase our language, burn our histories, and eliminate every trace of resistance. With the Industry and populace of Hibernia behind them on top of their new holdings in what was once Reval, they will become truly unstoppable. Once again, we beg of you, not just for us, but for everyone. We fight together, right here and right now, or we shall die alone, one at a time. Thank you, and goodbye.

Edit: I am hereby changing my research focus from atomic theory to radios.

Foreman Giles stepped up to the podium.  All eyes were focused on him as he ascended.  With the trumpets of war sounding in the west, how would the Union respond?  He began to speak, addressing the crowd.

"As you are all aware, the Republic of Sordland has launched an attack on the Hibernian Commonwealth.  We cannot stand by and watch their aggression proceed unchecked.  As such, we have sent our battalions to secure our western borders as a check to their growth.  We will establish this protectorate to ensure the safety of our close brothers and ensure Sordland troops are not massing at our borders."

There was already a growing buzz in the plaza, but he continued.

"In addition, with the obvious difficulty the Hibernians are having defending their lands, we have reached a deal with local governors to provide defensive support to Hibernian lands.  There is no need for armed conflict or for Union soldiers to fall, but we will not stand by idly either to watch the continent be consumed in chaos.  All people should be free to work and support their families, free from the interference of corporate overlords or warmongers!"

The usual bylines were met with the expected applause, but what did this mean for the future of the Union?  Time would tell.

The officials sat alone in a dark room, utterly silent. It was a far cry from the utter breakdown of law and order just outside their doors which as they sat was tearing through the country. Resignation had quickly set in amongst the upper levels of Hibernian leadership. They all knew what was coming. One of them spoke, finally breaking the silence.
”It’s not like we’re being given a choice.”
the men and women around the table shorten uneasily. Across from the first speaker, another figure began to speak, partially in response..
”We at least share our philosophy with the Union, and our system of governance. And there hasn’t been any actual fighting with them yet. The people might be willing to live under the Union, they’d certainly be a lot more willing to live under the Union than under Sordland.”
There was a sigh.
”We can peacefully submit to the Union, and we can hope for even a modicum of independence, or we can fight and die against them, and neither the Hibernian people or the Union government will ever be able to get along. Who knows, maybe one day we can leave the Union peacefully and become an independent nation again. The alternative is Sordland.”
Someone stood up.
”It’s still an invasion! They’re still capturing and conquering our lands, to add it to their own! They! Are! Not! Our! Friends!”
The person sitting beside them put their hand on their angered neighbour’s shoulder, and sat them back down again.
”Listen! We can take the lesser of two evils, or we can take neither, and be carved up by everyone else as well. Our border with Sol is weak, and they’ve been making advances into Sordland. Our people can be united under one foreign banner that has even the slightest chance of respecting our traditions and our way of life, or we can be carved up by every single one of our neighbours, and our lands will become an eternal fighting pit for rich Empires to exchange and trade and bargain for and to utterly flatten beneath their feet. There’ll never be any hope ever again for an independent Hibernia.”
Someone else stood up.
”We’ll fight Sordland down to the last crippled soldier, the last pair of weakened hands that can pull the trigger of a gun. We can’t fight all of them, but we can submit to the lesser of two evils, and fight the worse one. Sordland will not get one inch of Hibernian clay! NOT ONE INCH!”

Move all armies in 37 to 34.
Summon armies in 53 and 51.
Move 1 army from 51 to 53.
Change research to radios.
Demolish the academy in 53, we’ll scorch the earth before they get their hands on the Hibernian secrets of Atoms.
