Greeting engineers! Welcome to the Karabalique the capital city of the Kalcha Confederation! Here you can see the hard industrial architecture of the city as old buildings are bulldozed and replaced with modern constructs of concrete and steel thanks to a new modernization effort from the Prime Minister and Parliament. Situated in a newly built factory in the inner city here you'll be constructing new weapons of war for the Confederation. The Prime Minister has placed a large amount of investment in you, don't screw up.

Confederation Armory:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This is the first Design Phase of the game and here you will introduce a new implement of war for your soldiers to use to kill the enemy soldiers, of course if its a colossal failure then you get to revise it before it is actually fielded, or you can revise something else in your armory.

Currently your nation has: No artillery, no modern rifles and no sidearms. So you should work on one of those first, or not. I dunno, you got free will.

Confederation Battle Fatigues

With the approach of the 19th century's final decade, it has been decided that our army needs to modernize our clothing and gear. Instead of bright colors clashing, we shall instead outfit our soldiers with a deep russet red gambeson with metal inserts, tunics of bland color, and a number of cloaks to help hide our soldiers in the environment, blending in so as to strike unseen. Additional gear include straps to hold rifles and pistol holsters, and netting near the hips to hold any other gear we develop for our men. The boots meanwhile grant a steady grip in mud or mountains. Our Kepi are fine as they are, being black with russet red top and covering our eyes from the sun though we have also included a scope among officers to better see our foes eye-clashing color from farther away.

Mechanized Crossbow

The Mechanized Crossbow or MC for short is comprised of 1 design philosophy. Death from afar, anywhere it's needed. Making use of a specialized truck, these vehicles carry a powerful crossbow powered by the vehicles engine, allowing it to shoot bolts of immense power when compared to humans, capable of punching through inches of armor plate with ease. With an adjustable arc, in numbers they serve as powerful bombardment options, and bolts can also be tipped with an explosive warhead. Truly a marvel of engineering..

OK so the idea for a crossbow as artillery FIVE HUNDRED YEARS into the gunpowder era may go die an ugly death on a hill it barely managed to get lugged up to the top of.

Rifle, Infantry, 6.5mm, Model 1900
A new standard infantry arm to replace our terribly outdated ones, the new M1900 rifle fires a 6.5mm bullet at reasonably high velocities with smokeless powder, is bolt-action, and fires from a 10-round magazine fed primarily by stripper clips though it is detachable. It has a long knife-style bayonet, partly to offset its relatively short length compared to some shoulder arms. This allows it to be wielded both by standard infantry and by the cavalry.

Give me an arty design then? Cause it's not the worst idea, crossbows have been used a long time, and fitting it onto this era's truck and adding parts to use the engine to wrench it does mean it would get decent range so long as the cable is up to it.

You're hilarious. It literally is the worst idea possible. Crossbow range is garbage compared to gunpowder artillery, the size of each piece is going to be far beyond the size of even far superior regular artillery pieces, the cable is NOT the piece of a crossbow that stores energy (that would be the limbs, just like a regular bow) and so we'd need to work on some form of steel-limbed crossbow, and even if we did all that it'd still have a tiny payload and short range compared to a much smaller and cheaper piece of normal artillery. AND take longer to load, too!

In short, learn from history. Crossbows went away after guns became reliable for GOOD REASONS.

Gun, Artillery, 75mm, Model 1900
A relatively simple weapon, this 75mm field gun sits on a wheeled split-trail carriage presently towed by a team of horses. The gun can elevate to +45 degrees and -7 degrees, and can swivel thirty degrees left or right. It fires fragmentation and contact-fused high explosive shells. It has a hydraulic recoil absorption system, and is of course breechloading.

Both of these proposals are shorter than I'd like and while I did go for the silly US system just to annoy people, alternative names would be OK :P

TBH, we're socialists, so a simple, easy to parse system isn't all that bad :P

Dice Gods Say: You get a 4.

The Gun, Artillery, 75mm, Model 1900 affectionally nicknamed the "Ganaa" by the artillery crews assigned to them is a reliable cannon with a mount and shells which work well. The smokeless powder used in it tends to be too powerful for the breech and barrels though causing cracking after a number of shells are fired and in some cases catastrophic failure. Otherwise the shell and its one-piece ammunition is reliable will most likely stay a staple of field artillery in the Confederation for a long while.

The rifle is...less than hoped. The powder and round is fine, if a bit low on penetration due to its small mass. Its the rifle itself is the problem, the smokeless round is found to be too powerful for the breech which tends to explode in the faces of the user or crack and blow hot gas into their eyes as well as the detachable magazine just tending to fall right out of the gun. Currently the rifle is only issued in small numbers, and the rifles issued are the ones that have been heavily tested to make sure they are strong and reliable and mainly given to the cavalry thanks to its short size, but its still too large for them to comfortably ride with. For now the Ogedi is still the most populous rifle in our troopers hands.

It is now the Revision Phase....uh yeah. Get at it?

Okay I am joining here. Also I need to commend tric on the funniest design every offered. Crossbows are not viable in gunpowder era. A fucking aquibus is better lmao except if you are being sneaky.

Quote from: Ganaa Reliability Revision
The Ganaa as it is, needs to be more reliable. Learning from mistakes, a straightforward iteration can be done. Redo the breech so that it can handle the explosive charge. Improve the heat tolerance range via an adjustment to the alloy and thickness as needed to avoid the majority of the cracking and warping. If a slight reduction in powder will help a great deal, do that too. What matters is reliability, production rate and overall costs.

My suggestion is fix the problems with the rifle. If we can stop that from exploding (from brand new) it may have a bigger impact than stopping the artillery from exploding (after prolonged use). We can try to improve the mags while were at it.
