Quote from: TRUCK
The TRUCK (come up with a better name if you want) is powered by an air-cooled, 4-cylinder, horizontally opposed 'flat' engine, with a total displacement of 1.6 liters, tuned for maximum torque and low-end power. The engine uses a flathead valve arrangement with only one intake and exhaust valve per cylinder. The engine is in the front and the clutch is mounted directly to the driveshaft, which in turn leads to a 3-speed rear transaxle with an open differential which may be locked by use of a lever in the cabin. The cabin is a "cabover' shape, where the driver sits above the engine, making the cabin very short and leaving room for a longer bed. The bed is 3.5m long, and can be available as a flatbed, with wooden side-walls and a tailgate, a canvas-covered bed with benches, or any other convenient arrangement which can be made with planks, a hammer, and nails. The top of the cabin includes a swivel mount for a Witchfire machine gun, which is built heavily in case we make a larger gun later. There is a small step on the back of the cabin where the machine gun user would stand, having climbed in from the bed. While the gun mount is included, not every truck needs to be equipped with a gun depending on its role. The whole truck is sat on simple but robust leaf springs.

Dice Gods Say: 4

The extremely originally named T.R.U.C.K. (No one knows what it stands for) is the first venture into domestically producing every part of an automobile inside the confederation. The engine, suspension and all structural parts are quite well made and the machine itself runs very fine! The only problems with it are mainly ergonomic. The 'cabover' shape of the cap means that for engine maintenance the entire cab needs to be tilted forwards off of the frame with help from a winch or crane, its high profile also means that drivers are advised to not take sharp turns at speed or risk rolling over to the danger of the driver and cargo. Other than that the T.R.U.C.K. is found to have some minor traction troubles with only two powered rear wheels but this only appears when the truck is loaded very heavily and on poor roads.

It is now the Revision Phase!

Quote from: Truck 4WD Revision

Truck agility revision: Converting to four wheel drive will give off-road capabilities and greatly allow better torque. Along with this, sort out some of the other issues: a general improvement of the distribution of weight to be lower to the ground, new tyres that have better grip and fresh suspension that has stronger but also more springs that can reduce the jostling which will make it easier to drive and use of the machine gun. This should also improve survivability with the better driving, and might even be able to be used for light raiding or sniper hunting in the back lines.

Forgive me this, but punctuation. And stronger springs means more bounce I think.

Stronger springs do make more bounce. This is limited by dampers/shocks, which broadly aren't common on cars yet. Leaf springs provide a little damping of their own because of friction between the leaves (so until proper dampers were invented they were preferred over coil springs partly for this reason). In any case, unless Maxim specifically says our trucks are bouncing everywhere, we probably don't need to go into details about spring damping.

Yes, currently the only problems with the truck are the ones listed in the post.

Agaaryn Tolgoi Domestic Motors
So that didn't quite work the first time. However, we've developed quite a bit more experience with domestic engine production now (we've actually got a decent one in production), and so we're going to try again to replace the motors on our airship with domestic ones specialized for aircraft use, as previously tried. But better this time. As in, "functional". And hopefully a bit more fuel efficient.
