Menacing Spikes

Do these have any effect on a weapon?  Is an Exceptional Longsword that menaces with spikes better than an Exceptional Longsword?

Interesting.  I'm trying to replicate my epic untouchable adventurer who killed elite goblins and archers without a scratch, and then starved due to stupidity.  It's not working well.
