This was getting dreary, so we've changed things around a bit.

See Future of the Fortress.

I'm mindful of the more technical / interface / optimization / my-dwarves-are-stupid related issues, but I wanted to have a little bit of fun.

This is what I want most.  :)

Lightining will have to wait though? I thought you are doing it just after Fire.

I'll have you know that I threw my arms into the air and shouted "YES" when I finished the first paragraph.

Lighting (with torches and so on) was going to be after Fire, but the prelude to that is a lot of annoying map reworking similar to temperature.  Lightning as part of storms is one of the planned environmental/weather events, like tornados and hurricanes, but it isn't coming soon.

I made a little interactive dev thingy for myself when I was trying to sort things out...  it doesn't lend itself to 2D, and I made a few poor placements early, so some things are in odd areas.

Since you are working on armies (and all that stuff), and where invaders were mentioned, there was always talk about giving them ability to dig. Perhaps it's time for rewalling?

Nah, that's actually something completely seperate.  I mean, it seems linked to it to us, but it doesn't have anything to do with the armies arc...  the armies arc seems to have more to do with adding support for handling armies at a macro level.  Improvements to the way they behave after they've reached the player's fortress can be added later.

Plus, if he did things like that, then before you know it he'd reach the point where the next goal would be everything, which is non-helpful.  Instead, things need to be divided up into modules that will depend on each other in the code...  and in that respect, invader digging/rewalling is only very tangentally connected to the large-scale army system.

So if I'm understanding the most recent update, we're going to have human (even elf?) migrants in our fortresses, working alongside our dwarves?

Will this mean we'll be able to produce human-sized clothes and armour?
