We’ve studied the Flead life cycle, and from the time they hatch they exhibit a psionic link with a Flead Queen, if one is close enough.”

As she finishes, another Baron quickly passes a note to Arint. “Right. We’ve managed to get a stock of equipment ready for you to use. You’ll need to pay your fair share, though - we’re being stretched quite thin.”

(Enemies with Exposed take 1 additional point of damage per attack dice for every stack they have. Exposed is reduced by 2 at the end of every turn. Broken Defenses causes an enemy to have 1 less DR for every stack they have (though DR cannot fall below 0 this way). Broken Defenses is reduced by 1 at the end of every turn.)
Several Shrapnel Grenades take up the same action slot in combat (though they must be purchased and used one at a time). When the last Shrapnel Grenade is used, a player can choose an action, trick, or item to immediately fill the empty slot.

Utzi looks at the portable bunker for a minute. its mechanisms elude him completely, but, upon seeing it, the tactical uses of it spring to mind. "We should purchase this. A quick hideaway from danger to reorient oneself can be the difference between life and death."

If no one else buys anything that puts it overbudget, Utzi will purchase the portable bunker.

Spark Flamethrower and Portable Bunker purchased! Friedhold and Utzi may add them to their character sheets now. This leaves the party with 75 shills.

As the Barons hand over the equipment, Arint gives the signal for the Baron Extermination Team to move out as she moves to resolve an incident that erupted near one of the storage caches.

As people begin hading off to their assigned positions, the trudging over oft-used paths to the worksite the Flead Queen has occupied... results in an uneasy silence. The Barons clearly know the team is different from most Grifters, and with the stakes so high, it's hard to trust.

Flead Queen Fight Soon. In the meantime, characters can chat with one another or otherwise interact...

Thoughtseize: Remove a fragment of the mind and watch it crumble.
Marks one target with "Seized".  Seized targets reveal their intent for their next action at the end of the round, be it to attack, debuff, defend, support, etc.
Only one target may be Seized at a time, costs 1 Eve.
 } - Empowered Thoughtseize: the target also rolls all contested checks at a -[Level] disadvantage, costs 2 Adam.

Armored Shell Gene Tonic: A special tonic that once ingested makes the subject's body begin growing flexible plates of keratin just under the skin that protect vital organs.
Grants a pool of 8 HP, for every hit 4 points of net damage are subtracted from this pool instead of the user.  Three rounds after the pool is reduced to 0 it fully replenishes.  Does not require an action slot.

They were finally here. Ehto wasted no time; her first act was to reposition some of those who were lagging behind the party. Her next was erupting into an unholy beast that practically launched itself at the Flead Queen, teeth gnashing and claws shredding air.

Ehto casts Shadowstrut on Friedhold and Nessa as a free action, granting them First Strike this turn! She gains Might!
Ehto then Mauls the Flead Queen, dealing 6d10+14 damage, healing herself for 1/2 the damage, and inflicting a stack of Shredded, lowering the target's DR by 6 per stack! Might is consumed and Ehto gains Sorcery.

Utzi
Utzi had seen many bugs before. Nasty things, living in corpses that couldn't be eaten quite fast enough. This... "Flead Queen" was something different entirely. Utzi had never seen a bug quite so large before, and truthfully, he very much hoped he wouldn't have to again. Still, he was here to hunt, and the creature being revolting was all the more reason to actually kill it. His hand twitches slightly as he grabs hold of his new spear, which he loads into his atl-atl and tosses at the beast, skillfully aiming at what he hopes is a weak spot.

Skillful Toss!
Utzi throws one of his spears at the enemy. It does 4d8 + Dex. If the enemy happens to be an animal that weighs over 1000 pounds (GM’s discretion) This attack deals 6d10 + Dex + Str instead. Expends spears, which can be retrieved later.

Utzi is using Knapped Chaos:  Slivers of Continuity as ammo, removing one damage dice from this attack for either 3d8 or 5d10 damage depending on the Flead Queen's weight, and Utzi takes 1/2 recoil damage. Additionally, the Flead Queen both takes and deals 33% more damage for the next 1d3 rounds.

Perks
Paleosmarts: Utzi doesn’t have much in the way of formal education, but surviving in the megafauna-filled wilds for so long has given him insights into certain things. Utzi can use his Constitution instead of Intelligence for the purposes of crafting checks using stone age techniques and technology.

Permafrost Level 2: Utzi doesn’t really feel… warmth anymore. It’s been so long that he can’t even dredge up the memory of the sun on his skin.
Utzi is immune to fire, heat, ice, and cold based damage.

Built Like They Used To: Utzi is a from a time before all these modern nick-knacks and medical advancements made living easy and lavish. He never would’ve survived if he wasn’t tough. Utzi has no constitution stat cap.

Flaw:
Frozen Soul: Ice permeates every fiber of Utzi's being. Everything he does, he does with an unnatural chill filling him to his bones. Utzi cannot learn magic, or sufficiently magic-like effects, except for ice magic. Foes that resist ice resist all of Utzi's attacks, regardless of how effective they would be otherwise. Additionally, Utzi is vulnerable to attacks on his immobile, unchanging soul, and rolls twice to resist any soul-based status effects made by an enemy, taking the worse result.

Cold Snap:
Utzi summons the cold of the glacier he was frozen in. Enemies within 3 init of Utzi take Syn + 1d4 damage. 1 turn cooldown.
Level 2: Enemies that take damage from this attack lose 1 init. + 2d4 damage.
Level 3: Enemies that take damage from this attack lose 2 init.
Level 4: Damage is Syn + 3d4.

Current Effect: Enemies within 3 init of Utzi take Syn + 3d4 damage, and lose 2 init. 1 turn cooldown.

Glacier’s Call:
Utzi yells loud enough that he cannot be ignored, and strengthens his skin with the essence of his former prison. Target 1 enemy. It must attack Utzi before his next turn, if able, and Utzi subtracts 1d6 from all damage he will take until his next turn.
Level 2: Utzi subtracts 1d6 + 2 from all damage he takes until his next turn. Also, if Utzi is hit with a melee-range attack, the enemy takes 1d6 damage from the cold.
Level 3: Target up to 2 enemies that must attack Utzi this turn, if able.

Utzi encases an enemy in a thin layer of ice that slowly freezes them. Each turn, they must roll 3d6 + con/2. If they roll less than 5 + (Utzi’s level x2), they take 2d6 + SYN damage. If they succeed, they take no damage from Utzi’s prison that turn.
Level 2: The enemy rolls 2d6 + Syn instead.
Level 3: The enemy takes 3d6 + Syn damage instead.


Current Effect: Target 1 enemy. Each of their turns, they roll 2d6 + their con/2. If the number they roll is less than 5 + Uti’s level x 2, (Currently 17) they take 3d6 + Syn Cold damage. If they succeed, they do not take any damage from this effect this turn.

Skillful Toss:
A practiced throw of an Atl-atl, perfectly suited for hitting the vitals of large targets..
Deals 2d6 + STR to 1 target. If used against an animal weighing over 1000 pounds, instead deals damage equal to 2d8 STR x 2 Expends spears, which can be retrieved after combat.
Level 2: Deals 3d6 + Str against most targets. Deals 3d8 + Str x 2 against animals over 1000 pounds.
Level 3: Deals 3d8 + Str against most targets. Deals 3d10 + Str x 2 against animals over 1000 Pounds.
Level 4: Deals 4d8 + Str against most targets. Deals 4d10 Str x 2 against animals over 1000 pounds.

A fluffy, brown cloak that might look comfortable if it wasn’t caked in grime.
5% Cold Resistance.

Knapped Chaos:  Slivers of Continuity

May be used as ammunition for actions that consume spears.  Gives one fewer dice of damage and deals half as much damage to the user.  On hit, after damage, all characters on the same Init slot as the target take and deal 33% more damage.  The effect lasts for 1d3 rounds after which Knapped Chaos reappears in the user's possession.

Huntsman Basics:  Rory takes no fall damage. Additionally, he can carve materials from enemies which grant effects related to the enemy.

Flaw: Repositioning:  Every consecutive turn spent attacking lowers Rory’s Initiative by 3. He can't hit enemies that have 15 more Initiative than him.

Actions:

Wyrmstake Launcher: A modification added to gunlances that allows for the launching of a Wyrmstake, obviously. Deals 1d6+STR damage to the target applies a burn that deals 1d6 damage for 3 turns, and deals 1d6+Dex Damage after the burn wears off.
     Lvl 1: Applies a Burn that deals 1d6 damage for 3 turns and deals an additional 1d6+Dex damage after the burn wears off.

Caffeine:  Rory spends the turn getting back into position, increasing his Initiative by his 1.5*Dex.

Armed and Ready!:  Rory Taunts an enemy, forcing them to attack him for 6 rounds and attacks from enemies other than the one taunted by Rory have their damage reduced by his Level. Only works on one enemy at a time.
    Level 1: Taunt a single enemy for a round, only works on one enemy.
    Level 2-5: +1 round of taunt. Total of six rounds of taunt.
    Level 6: Attacks from enemies other than the one taunted by Rory have their damage reduced by his Level.

I Burn: Every two attacks in a row Rory Unloads the gun in his Lance dealing +3d6 damage against his target.
    Lvl1: When Rory attacks 2 times in a row his Second attack deals an additional 2d6 damage.
    Lvl2: Unloading deals an additional 1d6

I May Fall: Rory bolsters himself, Giving himself +20 Temporary HP in return for losing 1 DR for two Rounds.  (This can make his DR negative causing him to take more damage from each attack.)

    Level 2: Heal is increased to 2x the damage taken.

Friedhold (moved first by Ehto’s Shadowstrut)
As he prepares his attack, Ehto teleports him to a more advantageous position. (First Strike from Ehto’s Shadowstrut). He deals 17 electric damage and stuns the Flead Queen!

Ehto
Ehto performs a quick spell before she charges in, tearing at the Flead Queen’s defenses. After using Shadowstrut on Friedhold and Nessa - and gaining Might, she deals 27 damage and heals herself for 13 damage (effectively 0 due to being at max HP). She also inflicts Shredded on the Flead Queen (reducing her DR by 6) and gains Sorcery.

Tsubasa
Before the fight begins proper, Tsubasa takes a moment to focus herself. She gains 1 Concentration (now 1) and 4 temporary HP.

Rory
As his teammates begin attacking the Flead Queen, Rory positions himself at the front, making as much noise as he can, drawing the massive insect’s ire. The Flead Queen will focus on Rory for 6 turns. All non-taunted foes that attack Rory will deal 6 less damage for the duration.

Utzi
It may not be a heavy target, but it’s a big target all the same. Utzi’s Skillful Toss tears at it. It deals 22 damage to the Flead Queen, receiving 11 recoil damage from Knapped Chaos. He now has 4 spears left. The Flead Queen is affected by Knapped Chaos for the next 3 rounds, dealing and receiving 33% more damage from all sources for the duration.

While the Barons that the team arrived with have focused on trying to protect the flanks, one Baron takes the opportunity to toss a Spark Grenade at the the Flead Queen, dealing 18 Piercing damage.

Flead Queen
The Flead queen does nothing, as it is stunned. As the effects of the Electro Bolt wear off, however, it lets out a shriek of rage. Spines of various colors jut out from its carapace, and multiple fleads - larval and mature - appear from all sides.

The Flead Queen becomes frenzied! It will summon Fleads each turn, summoning more if it is stunned! Carapace becomes Spined Carapace!

Tsubasa gains 1 Concentration (now 2) from Meikyo Shisui.

Dysmorphia: To bind your foes in a prison of their own flesh.

Thoughtseize: Remove a fragment of the mind and watch it crumble.
Marks one target with "Seized".  Seized targets reveal their intent for their next action at the end of the round, be it to attack, debuff, defend, support, etc.
Only one target may be Seized at a time, costs 1 Eve.
 } - Empowered Thoughtseize: the target also rolls all contested checks at a -[Level] disadvantage, costs 2 Adam.

Armored Shell Gene Tonic: A special tonic that once ingested makes the subject's body begin growing flexible plates of keratin just under the skin that protect vital organs.
Grants a pool of 8 HP, for every hit 4 points of net damage are subtracted from this pool instead of the user.  Three rounds after the pool is reduced to 0 it fully replenishes.  Does not require an action slot.

Ehto landed and skid to a halt after she tore away some of the queen's chitin, spitting the broken armor out in the process. it was as disrespectful a gesture as she could make to an opponent. As lesser targets began to filter in, she opted not to shift back to human form, instead rising on two legs and retrieving a long, black rapier from somewhere within the folds of her fur. She raised it in a ready stance and squared off in what had be an utterly bizarre sight for her comrades, then made a mighty thrust at the gathering Larvae. The Sigil at the end of her blade erupted in a fountain of black tendrils.

Ehto casts Shadowlash on the Flead Larvae Swarm, dealing 1d4+26 shadow damage to them and forcing a check of her Int (Effectively 26; 14 base+12 bonus scaling from Thorn of Mercy) vs their Strength. If the Flead Larvae Swarm fail, they become Ensnared for one turn. Ensnared units cannot use any actions requiring physical movement.

Ehto's Sorcery status is consumed, causing Shadowlash to also inflicting a stack of Dread on the Flead Larvae Swarm. Each stack of Dread on a target decreases their Damage by Ehto's Level [6]. Ehto gains Might.

Perks
Paleosmarts: Utzi doesn’t have much in the way of formal education, but surviving in the megafauna-filled wilds for so long has given him insights into certain things. Utzi can use his Constitution instead of Intelligence for the purposes of crafting checks using stone age techniques and technology.

Permafrost Level 2: Utzi doesn’t really feel… warmth anymore. It’s been so long that he can’t even dredge up the memory of the sun on his skin.
Utzi is immune to fire, heat, ice, and cold based damage.

Built Like They Used To: Utzi is a from a time before all these modern nick-knacks and medical advancements made living easy and lavish. He never would’ve survived if he wasn’t tough. Utzi has no constitution stat cap.

Flaw:
Frozen Soul: Ice permeates every fiber of Utzi's being. Everything he does, he does with an unnatural chill filling him to his bones. Utzi cannot learn magic, or sufficiently magic-like effects, except for ice magic. Foes that resist ice resist all of Utzi's attacks, regardless of how effective they would be otherwise. Additionally, Utzi is vulnerable to attacks on his immobile, unchanging soul, and rolls twice to resist any soul-based status effects made by an enemy, taking the worse result.

Cold Snap:
Utzi summons the cold of the glacier he was frozen in. Enemies within 3 init of Utzi take Syn + 1d4 damage. 1 turn cooldown.
Level 2: Enemies that take damage from this attack lose 1 init. + 2d4 damage.
Level 3: Enemies that take damage from this attack lose 2 init.
Level 4: Damage is Syn + 3d4.

Current Effect: Enemies within 3 init of Utzi take Syn + 3d4 damage, and lose 2 init. 1 turn cooldown.

Glacier’s Call:
Utzi yells loud enough that he cannot be ignored, and strengthens his skin with the essence of his former prison. Target 1 enemy. It must attack Utzi before his next turn, if able, and Utzi subtracts 1d6 from all damage he will take until his next turn.
Level 2: Utzi subtracts 1d6 + 2 from all damage he takes until his next turn. Also, if Utzi is hit with a melee-range attack, the enemy takes 1d6 damage from the cold.

Utzi encases an enemy in a thin layer of ice that slowly freezes them. Each turn, they must roll 3d6 + con/2. If they roll less than 5 + (Utzi’s level x2), they take 2d6 + SYN damage. If they succeed, they take no damage from Utzi’s prison that turn.
Level 2: The enemy rolls 2d6 + Syn instead.
Level 3: The enemy takes 3d6 + Syn damage instead.


Current Effect: Target 1 enemy. Each of their turns, they roll 2d6 + their con/2. If the number they roll is less than 5 + Uti’s level x 2, (Currently 17) they take 3d6 + Syn Cold damage. If they succeed, they do not take any damage from this effect this turn.

Skillful Toss:
A practiced throw of an Atl-atl, perfectly suited for hitting the vitals of large targets..
Deals 2d6 + STR to 1 target. If used against an animal weighing over 1000 pounds, instead deals damage equal to 2d8 STR x 2 Expends spears, which can be retrieved after combat.
Level 2: Deals 3d6 + Str against most targets. Deals 3d8 + Str x 2 against animals over 1000 pounds.
Level 3: Deals 3d8 + Str against most targets. Deals 3d10 + Str x 2 against animals over 1000 Pounds.
Level 4: Deals 4d8 + Str against most targets. Deals 4d10 Str x 2 against animals over 1000 pounds.

Knapped Chaos:  Slivers of Continuity

May be used as ammunition for actions that consume spears.  Gives one fewer dice of damage and deals half as much damage to the user.  On hit, after damage, all characters on the same Init slot as the target take and deal 33% more damage.  The effect lasts for 1d3 rounds after which Knapped Chaos reappears in the user's possession.
