The world is the Norse mythology world where the world was made from pieces of Ymir's body, except not symbolically: the world you live in is literally pieces of his literal body
For what it's worth, you occasionally encounter stories where the setting is something or another's literal body. Dunno if anyone has done ymir or not, humanoids in general are relatively rare among 'em.

Not really terrible worldbuilding in practice, though. Folks have worked with it decently enough.

How often is it a literal literal body though

Futurama? Marvel?

(There's a couple of others I have pictures of, but can't remember where they're from and my Google-Fu is failing. Though it seems there's no common Trope that lists a whole lot of them that others have heard of, so maybe it is rare..?)

Bender doesn't count, he is metal, not flesh, and the other one isn't much to it either ;)

(I didn't see flesh specified anywhere! I suppose you're on the mark with the decorpsified head (and de-most-of-the-head-innards, too), though)

Indeed. Unless you mean robots are intrinsically incorporeal.  :P

Robots have chassis, not bodies. A robot with a body is called a robod
