So this is covered in neither economics, psychology, sociology or philosophy.
Could it be a linguistics thing?

Well, there is a Wikipedia article for it but I don’t see it in that list…

So it's something too obscure for regular linguists, but not too obscure for Wikipedia entirely. Math help us.

And I'm guessing from
A 42 year old corrupt policeman living in Birmingham in 2022. He hates his boss and he is named Mike. I wouldn't call him fat, but he could benefit from a healthier diet. He has two kids. Got bored of his marriage but won't divorce. His best friend at home is Biggles, a golden retriever.
He likes drinking Guinness and watching football with his mates.

For that particular “average person”, I’d say it’s not something they’d “do or experience”.
it's not feature of English?

After looking at things again, it appears that it is possible in English in certain circumstances , but is not required (or even possible in others).  There are, however, other languages where it’s required.

Edit: clarification

Is Latin one of the languages it's required?

Is it used as part of a word rather than on its own?

Not according to Wikipedia.

Also, I’m glad that I pressed preview before posting my first response. Apparently, the forum software has problems handling quotes within a spoiler.  The first time it was leaving stuff outside of the spoiler (enough to reveal the thing(r)), even though all of the tags were correctly nested…

Would it be found in the romance languages?

In some of them, yes.
