...

A fine day for racing, Bob!
Indeed, Jim!
I could wax on about the nostalgia of kart fumes, the squeal of rubber, the clinking of shells being loaded into the box-a-ports...
But how about we get to the race, Jim?

Not Shit Map still courtesy of freeformscholar (with some additions by me!)

Let's go over the newly designed track piece by piece! After the rocket start, our racers enter the RED SEGMENT, the first straight. You're going to notice the entire track was designed for power sliding-you'll get a no penalty to power sliding here, and when you hit the broad line of Dash Panels your speed will pick up!

It should be noted, any explosive attacks that send a racer flying have a chance to send them over the edge into the water-this is a hazard shared over the entire track.

Here's the first tricky maneuver, Jim-the entire waterway of this side of the track is filled with Red Cheep Cheeps, who rise to the surface when there is a race to watch the fun and occasionally leap over the track in a glistening arc. Racers can attempt to snatch one with a high jump!

This maneuver is known as the new STUNT action!

But why do you catch fish? Well...next up we'll meet an old friend! Oh wait, he's already here! Chompy will extend his chain at max length to bite the 1st place racer!

It pays to be careful, Bob! While easy to avoid, it is quite frightening...on the return lap, racers will notice a new pit stop area-making a check in here will allow your crew to cure one mid race hiccup a race, but the lost time will cause you to fall back! It also has some other benefits-allow you to shuffle your inventory, rerolling for better items, or removing bad ones. It also makes you temporarily invulnerable and unable to be targeted!

RED SEGMENT
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

....

The PURPLE curve has 2 paths-drivers who stick to the inside loop will hit the course's Item Boxes, and Power Slides always allow a free Pass Attempt, even if the slide fails! However, drivers can also swing wide to the outside loop to hit long series of Dash Panels! Choose which loop you wish to during your action, otherwise you'll default to the inside!

Don't forget about Chompy! He'll attack everyone in this segment, and it's a closer shave for anyone in the inside loop-anyone who fails gets flipped! Anyone carrying a tasty Red Cheep Cheep (His favorite food, aside from karts) gives chompy an incentive to bite them!

Cunning racers will notice there is no fences or barriers in Chompys yard-attempting to cut through will shave off precious seconds, but if Chompy catches you you'll be knocked airborne-possibly landing in the drink! Build up speed before attempting this!

PURPLE SEGMENT
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...

This is similar to the red segment! Use your bonus to power sliding here, and Dash Panels to get +1 Momentum!  Be careful about any racers too far back, though! Projectile attacks can be targeted from red to green and vice versa.

Be warned-if denied easier karts, Chompy will take a final passing nip at any racer in this segment except for the one in 1st place. It pays to be out in front, Jim!

Cheep Cheeps will also again jump over the track, but these ones are a different coloration-as most cheep cheeps are intolerant, and only school in the same colors. Green Cheep Cheeps are a bit meatier, and Ol' Chompy doesn't like their taste at all-having one in your kart will actually make him less likely to attack you!

GREEN SEGMENT
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...

The final BLUE curve again has 2 paths, acting exactly the same as the purple curve but with some differences-the outer curve is unchanged, while the inner curve contains a dangerous edge without railing that slips you into a small deep lake known as 'Weegees Watering Hole'-an inescapable mud pit that drowns racers dreams right before they reach the finish line. This course feature was designed by Luigi himself, Jim!

But, with a Cheep Cheep in tow, you can bypass BOTH curves and use them to flutter right over the gap and hop forward to the red segment! A sure way to win, Bob-and it allows you to scoot cleanly into the pit stop if you're ailing!

Either way, the finish line is right in view! Punch it!

So, final thoughts on the racers?

I'd give them all even odds!

Bower and Waluigi are both driving unmodified karts-no help, but no harm either!

Rotom and Karate Joe both decided on the same double modification, an armor shell and an item boost. Start of a new trend? Both of them will suffer some kart performance issues to be sure.

Jack Frost is getting some odd glances from the Inspectors Booth!

Cranky Kong is riding a classic Diddy Kong kart-designed for drafting, but loses a bit of grip on the track!

Crank still prefers a high acceleration module, as is tradition. His Kart seems to be in superb order otherwise, aside from that horrible sound!

Olaf is, as predicted, carrying a huge shield around. He'll be a bit slower to the good items, but that's fine if he doesn't get hit!

...

Let's get this race started!

Finally! I'm so sick of talking!

Action Phase!

The only decision you have now is to make now is to attempt a ROCKET start or play it safe!

Well, he seems as calm and focused as it's possible for a Jack Frost to seem.)

Cranky Kong putters up to the starting line, glaring disapprovingly at the course while he waits for the green flag to drop.

Cheep Cheeps? Special Loot? A Pit Lane? Back in my day, if your Kart lost its front bumper, you made darn sure your opponents could only target your rear!
Pop Pop, in your day Karts didn't even have bumpers- they hadn't been invented yet!
Don't you "Pop Pop" me, you insolent whippersnapper! What are you doing out on the course?
I'm your Pit Crew chief, of course! You think anyone in the Mushroom Kingdom knows the first thing about maintaining a Kong Country Kart? I'm the one who put that new spoiler on Speedy Pete for you!
And a fine job you did, too- this Kart handles like a TNT Barrel rolling across Gorilla Glacier!
And it's nearly as safe! The race is starting, so get out there and show everyone what Great Grandpappy Kong can do!

Before he can further berate the impudent Diddy Kong, Cranky Kong sees that the race countdown has indeed begun! He revs his engine at the last minute, trying to perfectly time his Rocket Start!

ROCKET start!

Why have good acceleration if you're not going to use it?

Player Action

(Unlike before the race, Jack Frost seems calm and focused.
Well, he seems as calm and focused as it's possible for a Jack Frost to seem.)

Rocket!

Jack Frost is first off the starting line with a hee-ho!

[5]The Hi-Ho Speedster (we named it because he didn't give us anything else!) bursts forward in a puff of snowflakes, and gains Two Momentum!

Rocket

Rotom is right behind!

[2]Rotom mistimes the boost in a burst of electric blue plasma sparks! A shocking development! But they manage to recover pretty quickly, and they gain One Momentum!

Rocket WAAAAAA!!

Waluigi's Kart jerks forward suddenly!

[6!]With the power of WAH!, Waluigis Kart jumps forward in a gout of garish purple fire! Because of the Nat 6, he gains three Momentum!

Rocket start!! Gwaahahaha!!

The Koopa King mashes on the accelerator [1], but his evil laughter is cut as short as if Mario had spun him around and tossed into an aerial landmine! He gains NO momentum! So long King Bowser! Oh wait, the race is just starting...

Before he can further berate the impudent Diddy Kong, Cranky Kong sees that the race countdown has indeed begun! He revs his engine at the last minute, trying to perfectly time his Rocket Start!

Distracted by his Pit Crew, Cranky Kong still attempts a rocket start!

[1!]It seems the Old Apes clock is a off a few seconds! His engine sends forth a gout of rotten banana colored smoke into the air and stalls on the starting line-he gains NO Momentum!

ROCKET start!

Why have good acceleration if you're not going to use it?

Crank has always been quick off the line!

[2]But it seems something is off with his booster! The Kart makes a horrible deathrattle and hops forward with a wet plop, rather than a satisfying flame boost! He takes off from the starting line with a gloombas determined forward march!

His karts high acceleration kicks in rather fast, though, gaining him an additional momentum-he gains TWO Momentum!

Rocket Start!

Olaf's Kart [6] blasts forward, preferably while yelling some sort of viking gibberish, gaining THREE momentum!

Rocket Start

Karate Joe's Kart is utterly unmoving! He's not even moving an inch! In the moment of greatest peril he stays absolutely still, and...
[6]
Wow! How did he get over there? His kart moved so fast off the line no one saw it! He gains a well balanced three Momentum!

Perfect Start!

...

Tie-Breaking

Waluigi, Olaf and Joe are neck and neck! [6] vs [6] vs [5]

All three front place racers contest furiously!

The power of the WAH and Viking war gibberish are just enough to disturb the subtle currents of the flow! Waluigi and Olaf break out into a leading position, with Joe just behind in 3rd!

Waluigi and Olaf face off! [3] vs [4]

Olaf's impressive weight manages to nudge Waluigi away, and he takes first place! But Waluigi is just behind and he's probably not happy!

...

Jack Frost and Crank duel for a distant 4th! [3] vs [4]

The canny Gloomba manages to accelerate past Jack Frost, just barely cutting him off!

...

Rotom's shaky start is uncontested-they smoothly move into 6th!

...

Bowser and Cranky Kong bring up the rear of the pack! Make way for the old-timers! [4] vs [2]

The King of Koopas refuses to back down, and Cranky falls to the back!

Both of them accelerate to their cruising speed of 1!

1st Place!!! (https://youtu.be/wGLRgg0k2rQ)
2nd Place!
3rd Place!
4th Place!
5th Place..!
6th Place..?
7th Place.
8th Place... (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvFjpJpGk9A)

...

An exciting start to an exciting race!

We're heading into the red section of the track now!

Here's where the race really begins-our races are about to hit their first dash panel, which will boost everyones momentum! Maybe they'll make use of the wide straight to power slide at no penalty?

And maybe they'll snatch a cheep-cheep! They're fluttering over the track! Can the racers get them into the water bowls we've helpfully installed on their karts?

[4+1]...There's FIVE Red Cheeps up for grabs!

It's a fish frenzy! Who's going to go fishing, and who's going to race to the front?

They better be careful! Chompy is getting agitated!

He's always agitated! I wonder if he remembers Crank? It's a historical fact, on Cranks first lap Ol' Chompy's first bite was him! In a way that was the start of two long, successful careers...

Chompy is indeed, bouncing around angrily-indeed, the only way a chain chomp can bounce-he pounds an old busted kart flat in agitation, and spits out a kart wheel he was chewing on into the nearby river. The yard itself is barren dirt, pounded flat by his bouncing movements, and littered with fish bones and the detritus of old karts-it's a veritable junkyard of smashed steering columns, flattened wheels, spoiled fenders and defiled spoilers. The junk possesses an odd pattern. Closest to the chain peg-as if collected there, trophy like-are chunks of blue Kart metal.

...

Shortly before the race...a handful of Lakitu track personnel on their racing clouds carefully lower a bulging net full of wiggling Red Cheep Cheeps into a giant bowl-a few feet away is the biggest Chain Chomp you've ever seen (especially if this is the first one you've seen), attached by a heavy metal chain to a peg stamped into the middle of the grounds.

"Steady...steady! And drop! Good, now play the dinner bell!"

One of the Lakitus bothers with controls-his clouds audio system plays the unmistakable sound of accelerating karts, bringing the Giant Chain Chomp to wakefulness-he springs up with a loud barking noise, eating the entire bowl in one chomp.

"Aw, look at him go! He's sure nice to watch from us being safe up here at a minimum league distance, plus ten wiggler feet!"

"Yeah, he's learned to get a lot of range, it pays to be safe! You know, he never chomps the same place twice. He's testing his chain for weaknesses, systematically..."

"Well we sure showed him-we put in that new chain link just this morning. That should keep him attached."

"Let's get outta here. I gotta see a toad about a bet against Cranky Kong."

"Get me in on that! I doubt the Old Kong will even get off the starting line!"

As the Lakitus flutter away in their clouds, we pan to the new peg that attaches the metal chain (Which is actually part of a chomps body and fairly indestructible) to the post, and zoom in to a large paper placard which seems to be a letter of sale.

...

(Quick Turn Rules)

Cheep Cheeps can be snatched in one of two ways-either as your action(this was supposed to be the stunt roll, but w/e-it's the equivalent of taking a shortcut) or any Cheeps left will be attempted to grabbed automatically in the cleanup phase as per item boxes. As a direct action, you lose out on normal action bonuses such as aggressive driving or drafting, but you can claim one no matter your placement in the segment, as rolls are done at the end of the movement phase and successful rolls are rewarded in posting order.

You can also try to steal another races cheeps-in this case you'll target a random racer ahead of you who has one. You can choose a specific target-if you target someone specifically I'll assume your priority is making sure they don't get one, as opposed to getting one yourself.

The automatic grab is done in race order of racers without one, but there's no penalty as the fish are flopping all over the track. It's important to note, grabbing a Red Cheep in your action phase will leave you vulnerable to Chompy, as he hits in the phase right after that-while picking one up afterwards will not.
