nice ideas, here's to progress in 2022!

I find most games that rely on random gen maps live or die by the excitement felt upon seeing a fresh start. So, if your randomly genned worlds are very same-y there is less compulsion to re-start. Take DF - I could generate worlds endlessly, and the process itself is kind of enjoyable.

how simulative are your economy and population systems?

I have a goal of enabling 40000 provinces on very new PCs but the game is perfectly functional around 14000.

I think at that massive scale, computer CPU power and RAM is not the limiting factor, human CPU and RAM (and attention span) is.

The random world generator is a major plus over the Paradox titles.

I think analyzing characters and armies might be fun.
Like, what do characters DO in the army?  How much risk do they have of injury/death/PTSD?

In the feudal era, military service was expected from Serf to King.  Generally, the difference was the level of protection and skill.

Well, different eras/countries/governments/societies/families/groups had different expectations.  Sometimes, war is reserved for the noble, in others it is the quick and deadly path to success, in others only the poor are sent off to die.

And, to both your points, the way that heroes/leaders function change as technology changes... I can't remember the title, but I definitely have a book in my library that looks at how the location of the troop leader changed over time, from Alexander leading his troops from the front, to the Napoleonic-era where generals tended to be behind the men they commanded but still close enough that they could send orders by foot or horseback quickly, to the invention of the radio moving generals to command posts that were often miles from the front lines. (And I suppose we can think of the increasing use of drones today as a sign that C&C are getting further still from the front lines.)
