Ambiguity - Where do dead games go when they die?
« on: February 21, 2022, 04:27:16 pm »

Your story was only just beginning...

...Or so you thought. Perhaps you had just set off on a journey and overcame your first few obstacles. Perhaps you lead a nation and were preparing to go to war. Or perhaps you were a tree or something.

Then things came to a halt. You don't feel alive, and yet you are also neither dead nor undead (Unless you were in the before time). The world you called home has come to its untimely conclusion, fallen beyond the first few pages of the enigmatic 'forum'; and fallen to obscurity. Time itself had come to a halt... Until now!

Against the odds, you still draw breath (Unless breathing was never a thing you did in the first place, in which case you do not). You find yourself is a strange new world, on a barren floating island floating through the stale air. A thick fog obscures your vision, but through the fog you can see the shadow of other floating islands and rocks. This realm is even closer to oblivion than your point of origin, and it seems unlikely that you will be able to come back if the same things happens here.

You feel an enigmatic and negentropic power within you. Perhaps by using it you might one day be able to return home, or at least make this place a bit more livable.

Damnit people, this is why I said to keep the truce. Because now everyone's ganging up on the cats.
Also, don't forget to contact your local Eldritch Being(s), so that they can help with our mission to destroy the universe.

Not sure whether this counts or not, but hey.

How, pray tell, does one blunder into creating a character for a game that is not only not accepting characters, but had in fact also been already underway for at least a few months on this forum and had started and progressed for God-knows-how-long on a different forum? Extremely stupidly is how!

EDIT: The alternate is also named Jack and he’s a chaos-worshipping anarchist. The game went for a bit and he did get some magic stuff, but I don’t know if that gets counted or not. Either way, the game died to fast for things to really happen.

Were there multiple Acters I could have chosen? Yes, yes there were. But playing a god felt rather too high-power.

EDIT2: Just in case, another alternate. A sith engineer, specifically. Or, a "sith" engineer. Or a sith "engineer"?
He uses a sniper rifle and doesn't afraid of anything.

EDIT3: ...heheh. A better idea has returned to me. Octavian Grey was a fun character in a fun game. It'd be a shame for the Infinity Mansion to be entirely lost, wouldn't it?
(So we're clear, the above is my new top choice. Original sheet with some more character details is here.)

Glass is, as usual, correct.
Yep, as ever, I bestow upon Glass the expected +1
I'm gonna say we go with whatever Glass's idea is.

Question. Must the game have died before the character was used, or can it be any game that ended before a proper conclusion - i.e. the dreaded permanent hiatus?

I still want the D. The D is love, the D is life. The D is bully.
Rewind, can't keep going
My mind keeps replaying
That night when we dove in
But now I'm sinking

I've given it a bit of thought and came to a decision.

I'll permit you to use a character that didn't actually make it into the game you link to, provided that you were waitlisted and maintained an active interest in the game itself while on the waitlist.

First Jack is out, then. Oh well.
Second Jack and Lisnyk Kad are valid though.

What about a character from a game that lasted one turn then immediately died?

If so then I'll use this.
