Four and a half years.
That is how long Persus13 has held the title of King of the Mafia. Formerly a yearly event, the massive slowdown of the Bay12 mafia scene resulted in King of the Mafia 7 being delayed until 2020, and a lack of participation killed the game before it could reach its conclusion. Disgruntled with the lack of movement of the coveted title, a group of Bay12 mafia members demanded that Persus return to run King of the Mafia 8 in March of 2022, hoping to see the game finally reach a conclusion.
Second verse, same as the first. Once again, King of the Mafia stalled out after a few rounds from lack of interest, leaving the title in Persus13's hands. Hoping to avoid getting dragged back next year to run another doomed game, Persus offered a new solution: the 7 players of the last round would vote on their monarch. The crown gets passed, new players don't have to be found for another round, everyone wins, right?
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeell... one problem. After tabulating the results, Persus announced that two players had gotten 3 votes each, with one player with one vote (themself, of course) and the remaining four players with no votes. Unable to convince the lone voter to switch to one of the two frontrunners, the debate over who would be the new King of the Mafia escalated into an internet shouting match. The level of vitriol is such that ToadyOne has stepped in to issue a warning, and yet the debate shows no signs of settling down. Yay...
Because this is definitely how Bay12 players behave and definitely not a lame-ass justification for running a Bay12 themed War in the Palace, yep yep yep!Hello, and welcome to Lords of Mafia! This is a 7-player version of
War in the Palace, a mafia-adjacent Royal setup. I recommend all players familiarize themselves with the the goals of every faction, to avoid accidentally revealing information during the game that loses their team the game.
Rules:72 hour days with majority hammers, no nights. No extensions will be available. Weekends count as 24 hours because I don't want to be growled at by the older players.
Days follow each other immediately after the day end flip reveal, with one exception. If the
Distant Third is eliminated, day start will be delayed until they have submitted their kill.
No PMing anyone but me, the mod.
I will not answer questions in the thread. If you have a question about any role in the game, please PM it to me. The very fact that you are asking those questions may reveal information about your role to your enemies.

You are Candidate A/B, one of the tied candidates for the title King of the Mafia. You were ecstatic to receive the nomination for the title after your performance in King of the Mafia 8, but there's a small snag: the vote came out in a tie. Even worse, some egotistical asshat is insisting that they really won if you only count the legitimate votes! Maybe this argument presents an opportunity: if they step out of line and Toady bans both of them, that makes you Lord of the Mafia by default. After all, they can't complain if they're banned.
To help your cause, you've sucked up to ToadyOne in hopes he'll take reports you make more seriously. Once during the game, at any time, you may report one player for their bad behavior, killing them. If Candidate [B/A] is still alive, you must submit this kill publicly by writing Report XXXX in the thread. If they are dead, you may submit this kill privately to me via PM.
Wincon: You win the game if you are alive, Candidate [B/A] is dead, and the Distant Third is dead.
You are an Enthusiastic Supporter of XXXX, one of the tied candidates for King of the Mafia. As the debate boiled over, you have been drawn into the escalating argument, and now it is your solemn duty to ensure your candidate gains the title King of the Mafia, by any means necessary.
If your candidate is killed or eliminated, you will leave the game, having no further purpose in the argument.
Wincon: You win the game if XXXX is alive, the other candidate is dead, and the Distant Third is dead.
You are the Distant Third, the only candidate for King of the Mafia with only one vote. But that can't be right, can it? The votes must have been counted wrong! You were the best performing player in King of the Mafia 8 by a mile, and you will not be denied the title that is rightfully yours. Once the other two are out of the picture, everyone will have to acknowledge your skill!
Once during the game, including immediately after your death, you may start a Flame War, targeting a number of players equal to the number of surviving Candidates (ie. Two if both candidates are still alive, one if one has been eliminated). This kill should be submitted in-thread in the format Flame War: XXXX YYYY. Those players will be killed.
Wincon: You win the game if Candidate A and Candidate B are dead. You do not have to be alive to win the game this way. You also win the game if you all the Enthusiastic Supporters are dead and you are alive with one or both candidates.
