Crisis mind: spend 2 AP to offer the chest a treat, throwing it to the monster and tricking it into wasting its action on the food.  Then Wham! it.

[Crisis+2, Moderate difficulty: Success!] (66% chance)

Awuna reaches into her hobo satchel mid-stride and pulls out a particularly juicy strip of Minkdillo flesh, tossing it underhand into the stupid fucking asshole fake box's mouth.
The box catches the meat with its tongue and rolls it around, distracted.
[Chomp will Miss]
[-1 Meat Chunk]
"Mama mia, it's fresh! Thanks sweetheart!"

Awuna then follows up with a big punch to its esophagus. It proves remarkably solid. Less like flesh and more like hardwood.
Which uh, would make sense, considering it's a box.
[2 Damage dealt]
However, the impact is enough to rock the living furniture back a hair.
[Box now has 1 AP.]

A moment later the box remembers it's supposed to be biting, but the meat did the trick and it's a hair too late to brutally dismember Awuna, instead simply snapping shut with a huge, shuddering impact, perhaps concussing itself in the process. If living wood can get a concussion.
[Box uses chomp! It stuns itself!]

[Auto Checkmate!]
Awuna takes advantage of the momentary pause and clamps her own jaws onto one of the big googly eyes, and yanks on it! The eye comes free, revealing a hole in the wood, from which... fish oil sprays? Why is mimic blood fish oil?
[Bite deals 16 damage! Box perishes!]

"Ouch. Ya got me!"
Defeated, the box rapidly falls apart, the wood and fish oil making up its flesh seeming to transmute into pure water, which then drains away into the floor. Left behind is a pile of sixty-nine shiny silver coins, which seem immediately useless.

[Leveled up!]

We're talking about partially sapient undead spaghetti here, you can probably instruct it to only strangle specific diners.

Level Agility, take coins, Room 4.

You hoover up your coins and hurry back into the central room, feeling yourself slightly faster, lighter on your feet. Not fast enough to outrun the poison though.
[-1 HP]
Slipping through the poison membrane into 'room 4', you don't smell anything too unusual other than the general stench of poison. This room is small and circular, and in the middle is a stone pedestal displaying a silvery chrome helmet on top. Looks made for a human, not you. A solid plate covers where the eye holes should be. It is shiny.

Take it???
  • Get the Shiny.
  • Leave it and go somewhere else:
  • Side Room 2.
  • Side Room 3.
  • Up to Floor 2.
  • Down to Basement 1.
  • Outside?

Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

Take the shiny!

You walk over and pick up the helm.
[Blindhelm Acquired]
[Moderate Toughness: 3, Failure] (16% chance of Success)

A number of tiny sharp things pelt your back. You whirl around and bare your fangs, yet no enemy reveals itself.
Agh. You... don't feel good. A familiar burning sensation washes over you, intensified.
[Slow Poison worsened from 1 to 2]
[-2 HP]

Just in case, you put the little human sized helmet on your head. Nothing happens. Useless shiny! Just like most shinies, really.
You then pick the sharp things out of your back. Little thorns with fins, or something. You toss them in your sack along with the shiny.
[Thorndart x3 Acquired]

Where to?
  • Side Room 2.
  • Side Room 3.
  • Up to Floor 2.
  • Down to Basement 1.
  • Outside?

..We can use those to bring in our allies, if we want to.

Room 3 next, but eat meat first, in case there's a fight.
