it's starting to feel like you've derailed your own thread.

Inherent contradiction.

how is Anansi "unofficial." he's the best. I read all the books I could find with him as a kid.

is this like ... "religion thread without Abrahamic religions?" Because people do actually still practice Greek polytheism too

but if gods can break rules then so can we
...then we have become as gods!

Knowing Novel's other threads, this is the point of this one.

I invoke the Gods of Fire to burn down the garden of eden, the garden which paris of troy went to, apples generally, because goddamn that's a annoying fucking meme. Somebody mentioned Abrahamic religions - burn all the memes in the bible please. Thanks. And if the devil gets smart about it, punch him and introduce him to a fire SEASON.

So many memes to burn...

To burn memes, you must first burn yourself. -- Agni, probably, somewhere around 20,000 BCE

I invoke the Spirits of nature to rise up.  Bugs, vines and skittering things.  Let them lend their existence against the supposed Jehovah.  By their bites, they are known.  By their scratches, they are known.  By their tiny limbs they are known.

Jehovah is not known.

If we're doing both official and unofficial gods how come no one's mentioned the Norse gods yet?

I am forced to mention Samson and Solomon are both cool elements of the bible, to save them from my own book burning. Christianity is a religion that lives on it names. Look at Jesus Christ. Talk about a well-designed name. Everytime you say it it's like you charge the battery to say it another time.

The old DND roguelike project, Incursion, has a fantastic list: http://incursion.wikidot.com/gods

I mostly remembered:
Maeve, insane queen of the fey.  Fickle and jealous, particularly of elves
Mara, non-evil deity of death and romance
The Multitude, a collective "deity" of fucked up souls

I could have sworn there was a deity for blackguards who believe themselves to be paladins, but I must be misremembering.  Look how detailed that first entry is though, for the shadow-god...  He wants sacrifices of creatures who have harmed the petitioner, and cannot offer aid if the petitioner is in bright light.  Such character.
