Please they're fragile little breeding products that can't get through the winter on their own, need to be sown every year and most of which are sterile.

Novel is the Champion of the Lower Boards

Seeking his Rightful Place in the Log of Honor as being among the Top 10 Topic Starters

I sorta came to this conclusion a month or two ago, but thought it might hurt Novel's chances if it were to become public.

As you can see, Novel only needs to start 25 more topics to enter into 10th place for Top Topic Starters.  And as Warlord255 hasn't posted in over a year, that 10th place is relatively solid for Novel once he starts the requisite topics.

Haspen, on the other hand, posted today.  So it'll probably be up to Haspen how far Novel goes in the rankings.

The lower forums absolutely dwarf (heh) the upper forums. I mean, it makes sense when you think about it, but only once you've been here. Before, I had no idea. It is rather strange to discover what you think of as the Dwarf Fortress forum, has more of it that is not Dwarf Fortress than is, at least in terms of activity.
Is there anyone here who joined not because of Dwarf Fortress? I mean obviously there are forumites who didn't, since the forums predate the game, but how many of the active users are from that era?

Jifodus is here in this very thread. Hello :)

There's definitely folks that have ended up here for reasons other than DF. The mafia board here was (is?) pretty attractive, you get people mentioning they came here for that and then wandered around from there, just as one example.

... i came initially for DF, though, yeah. Migrated down to the lower boards at some point and have been here ever since. Been a long time since I've even looked up there, tbh.

Same here.  I used to play DF a ton, but over the years I've played it less and less and just post here in general discussion rarely.

It's funny.  I check here multiple times a day, more than any other website, but don't often have anything to say.  I know little about the current version of DF so I can't help much on the upper boards anymore either.

I lurk the upper boards pretty often.  I used to be completely obsessed with DF, but so much has changed.  Sometimes I'll make a fort and play it for a day or two, but I struggle with it.  It's grown so much.

Honestly I'm legit hype for the Steam release because it might be more accessible in some ways.  I can still do basic stuff but I cannot into minecarts, and I absolutely cannot into adventure mode anymore.  It's *too good* in a way.

Oh yeah but Novel's little endeavor is lovely.  GD was getting too calcified into the megathreads, I love these fresh topics.  They don't all land, and that's fine!

FG&RP is also good and attractive.

I might get back into hosting forum games or modding DF, but for now I mostly lurk.

I probably will keep using the normal release (which will still have all game features that aren't the interface/music) because I am used to it and won't be able to pay in the near future due to the sanctions anyways. .

Who would have know that Novel was the hero General Discussion needed.

Also I used to play DF a bunch but only adventure mode as I suck a fort mode.

I like the Novel threads. They are often started with the barest bones of a prompt, but then that is good canvas for high effort posting. Or shitposting
