From 3 years ago:

https://www.technologyreview.com/2019/02/21/137309/the-crispr-twins-had-their-brains-altered/

You can't get away from this. The only future we have is one determined by humans. Anything else is most likely to get us killed in the attempt. Looking at you, AI.

So take this seriously. If we have a future, it's going to be one dictated by your fellow primates.

And what do we have here but the potential for better primates?

Illegal CRISPR experiments are already happening. It's only a matter of time before counries feel obligated to have them, so as not to lose the brain race. At a certain point, they'll just be spamming experiments... with questionable side effects from high-powered, but inevitably scrambled, brains.

Intelligence isn't the same thing as morality. Especialy when you're literlly developing it by experiment. "Dominated" is a little too accurate a description.

Look around at the present, to be honest guys. Lots of dumb people, controlled by smart rich assholes. It's the same thing coming for less dumb people.

You're looking at a future where it may be extremely hard to compete for the best quality of life, your descendants included.

Any way to dodge this? Just hope that the future will be much more weird then this?

Chinese Twin Girls.

They were only allowed to exist because they were guinea pigs.

It's also Chinese Science, so it might just be junk. But at least those girls got to exist.

Go extinct! NOW!

"Nuke everything" doesn't work,  gene-editing tech could easily survive that.

Hm, I think the "die from radiation" gene is difficult to edit out.  In fact, arguably mutated genes are more prone to damage from radiation, since they're less normal, in the form of cancer, which are mutated genes gone wrong.

The "survive radiation" gene could concievably be edited in...

Fallout did it.

Yes, because Fallout is historically accurate.  ::)

There's plenty of animals with higher radiation tolerances. Shrug

I highly doubt being immune to radiation will keep the nuclear blast from killing you, also just because your immune to radiation doesn't mean anything else is, so have fun in that radioactive hell hole where all the plants and animals are dead.

Meh. Unless they also figure out a way to speed up aging, by the time these Gene-Engineered humans even get to at least adolescence or young adulthood, global society is either going to collapse from catastrophic climate change or sheer general political instability.

... Or, Lidku, we're on an exponential technological change curve and we most likely will be in a completely different barrel of fish by then because of it. If barrel isn't full of piranhas labeled "AI", it is going to have GI from the CRISPR geniuses.

Additionally, the more negative your outlook is, the more likely governments will expedite the process to have some much needed super-smarts on hand before we all fry. This isn't going to be some static you hear about occasionally, this is going to be at least a regular Rick-roll in your life.

King Zultan, Nukes are unlikely to completely fuck up the planet. Look at Chernobyl.

Sounds like we need additional nukes.

... That is entirely correct, and probably the smartest thing in this thread.

If we just fucking go for it, we'll actually get a future that works.

Or kill off enough humans to restart human civilization from the very beginning.
