I'm just having a devil of a time trying to figure out how to actually build a seneschal without stepping on the toes of other characters. Which I guess is somewhat the point.

Since there are two RTs your backstories should have a reason for your alliance. I'd suggest one but since neither of you have backstories yet there isn't much I can connect :-/. You both have wintery names so a familial relationship wouldn't seem weird.

No, Maximum Spin seems to know what they are doing more than I do (and should get to be the RT). I will create a new character. Let's see, we got a tank, a speaker, I will be a mage.

You would get one ship to start with (though like normal you can get more ships later if you want to). How authority would be split would depend on your backstory. If one of you saved the other's life or something it could be an unequal partnership where one owns the ship and the other serves them to pay off the debt. Normally you would expect authority to be split between the two more or less equally if the situation was something like two weak houses allying to increase the strength of both. In cases where there are more than two you would expect some kind of council where the powers are shared among all present RTs. Or we can have an additional NPC RT who you both owe fealty too. The game is made so you can play with any number of RTs (though if you have 0 you'd probably make an NPC RT).

The book does say you can give RTs multiple ships if you want to in the "What if you have more than one RT" section I guess.

Anyway if you pick up a mage equivalent you'll probably want to skim through Navis Primer.

Hey, Stirk, my book seems to say 2 things in different places and I'm not sure what to believe.
Page 157 says Astropath Transcendent starts with Telepathy discipline and the Astro-Telepathy Technique.
but on page 49 there is no mention of that.
Do I need to buy it or don't I?

Found it, you do not need to buy it, look on page 72 under Astropath Transcendent Special Abilities. subsection "psychic powers"

Symonne is a bookish, sanguine woman hailing from Gudrun, one-time capitol of the Helican sub-sector. On that storied world, the Cipios are a minor noble house that makes most of their wealth through interstellar trade, as they lack the holdings and treaties of the more venerable houses. Due to the importance of trade Symonne was immersed in calculations and negotiations from a very early age, tutored by savants and introduced to all sorts of people.

Life was good for a noble on Gudrun, and Symonne grew up immersed in the Imperial Creed without ever seeing a xeno or Chaos manifestation (aside from the occasional mutant begging on the streets). Still, she became somewhat restless. She wanted to see other planets and forge new trade agreements, partly for her family's prosperity but mostly to secure a place for herself among the Gudrun elite. After some discussion with the house rulers, Symonne was granted leave to travel to the planet Sarum, a neighboring sub-sector's capitol, aboard the trading vessel Glory of Alfonso.

Symonne never made it to Sarum. Unbeknownst to herself of the house of Cipio, the Alfonso's captain acquired, just before departure, a map which supposedly led to untold riches deep within the Koronus Expanse. Overwhelmed by greed and failing to notify anyone, even his crew, of his sudden change in plans, the captain set course for fortune and glory without adequate preparation.

It was a long and desperate voyage, during which death or worse lurked in the dim passageways and the Gellar field flickered more than once. Supplies ran low, and the ship was thrown off course by warp storms. When the Glory of Alfonso finally limped into a safe harbor within the Expanse, more than half the crew had perished and Symonne was forever a changed woman. She had caught a glimpse of the terror lurking in the void, and while it did not break her she could never again go back to her old life. She ditched the Alfonso and never looked back, determined to find a new life and new renown in the Expanse.

Symonne tends to wear robes in various cuts and colors, and prefers corrective lenses rather than augmetic eyes. She appears to be in her mid-20s, though her noble upbringing would have afforded her quality juvenat treatments and she may be a good deal older. It's not polite to ask, though.

I'm trying to sort out an acquisition but I'm not sure what's valid. Is it "base rarity of Average or lower", or is it "could have a rarity of Average if in a large enough settlement"?

(I think you use Table 9-35 on page 272, short answer: things with common quality can have base rarity of extremely rare if you're only getting them for yourself)

Regina was born to a family of Imperial shipmates on board the destroyer Emperor's Will Manifested (DD-17453) to Godwin and Inessa Winters. Her Father was a cook and her mother was a marine*. She was the third child of six. During her childhood Regina was mostly left to her own devices. She learned to take a punch earlier than most and to never show her fear to others. As a teenager she started exhibiting a talent for psy-phenomena, and it was not long after she was separated from her family and taken aboard a Black Ship. She was brought to the very heart of the Imperium and after being soul bound to the emperor, trained in the ways of Astropaths. With her strong will and impeccable intellect Winters seemed to have a bright career in Astropathic Research front of her. That is until, in one of her essays, she questioned some of the church-dictated truths about the warp, that did not quite line up with her experiments. Her punishment, very light considering the circumstances, was to go into exile as a glorified vox caster aboard the first out-bound ship. It turned out to be the cruiser Dominance of Will (CL-3474) headed for the Koronus Expanse. She spent her 20s relaying messages back and forth. One of the more interesting events aboard the Dominance of Will was when she was pressed into service by the fleet arbiter** to ferret out a smuggler ring aboard the ship. Though she was not able to penetrate the minds of the people she questioned, as the arbiter hoped, she did develop a talent for establishing a nearly super-natural rapport with them which helped her gain a reputation as a competent interrogator. Eventually tiring of her unstimulating servitude, Regina used her talents to escape the ship. When she left she took a suit of standard issue marine armor⁺, a mono sword and her service Holt 2011 pistol.

I'll take a personal stash of Plasma grenades. My understanding from Dark Heresy is that the best way for non-combatants to contribute in a fight is to start chucking grenades!

Also correct! Grenades have a chance to hit even when you miss thanks to having Blast. Essentially since grenades will be 1d5 meters away from the target, you have Blast/5 chance to hit with a  missed grenade. This does mean that plasma grenades are non-ideal for the intent, since they only have a blast of 1 they're likely to miss compared to a frag grenade with a blast of 4.

While the part about the blast radius is true enough, frag grenades are far more common than plasma grenades and we'd probably be able to acquire a good supply relatively easily in the course of play. To me it seems like a waste of an acquisition, taking something like that, unless I feel like grabbing enough frag grenades for 100+ soldiers.

I guess I could acquire something else, I'm just not sure what yet. Will give the rulebooks another look tomorrow.

You could get a grenade launcher too, so you have some killing range beyond throwing distance.

Or make them best quality removing the whole "There is a .4 chance it explodes and kills you instead" thing that worries some people.

Or you could just get plasma grenades like you planned.
