Emily & Acacius

Still with one of Acacius' "hands" gripped around the face of Shichiro to hold the cigarette in place.  Emily twist back and launches a second strike, this time a fist of dark thorns aimed at his gut and laced with something to slow the Aramitama down.

Alter 3 into 4, activate Torpor Strike.
Consume 5 for Melee attack/holding cigarette.

Spoiler: Rolls (click to show/hide)

[Now Playing: The Old Boy]

The spears practically detonate, expanding with near-explosive force as they are wreathed in spell-eating flames. For a moment, they envelop Shichiro igniting his clothes and burning his flesh. His shirt and jacket are reduced to cinders. The ink on his back seems to run, as if melting from the heat. A tattoo of a kirin melting away into black pigment. But the Aramitama, the Aramitama remains.

Acacius had known it from the start. There was no way to save Shichiro. The covenant, the intermingling of selves. He was damned the second he accepted.

It is something akin to a retch. Driven not by reflex but by impact. The force of Noriko's strike forcing blood up his throat. The shadowy grasp kept the cigarette in place, but the blood, the blood snuffs it out.

The light leaves Shichiro's eyes and his fist crashes forwards.
Shichiro is no more.
Now ariseth Sigurd Sauer.

[Now Playing: Pledge of Demon]

Noriko may be agile, Noriko may be accurate, but so too is Sigurd. There is no restraint now, no hesitation, and there is no dodging that punch.

Black smoke mixes with white. Two impacts. The first from Mizuki's heel, the second from Sigurd's fist.

Noriko slams against the window, glass cracking but holding, barely.

She's hurt. She's winded. It could've been worse. It easily could've been worse. Fucker reinforced the window. Reinforced it a real particular way, tried to lacerate her with it. Had she no reinforced it herself, he would have succeeded.

He hadn't hit her either.

This? This wasn't from the punch. Right before impact, Mizuki teleported in and kicked the spear jammed in Sigurd's back. The wrenching motion counteracted the rotation of his hips and robbed his punch of that last shred of force, that inch of reach. His fist had halted just before it hit Noriko. This wasn't from the punch, this was from its shockwave.

Before she even lands Mizuki is firing, a high caliber bullet streaking towards Sigurd's temple... and pinging the fuck off. Black. His temple is stained black. The running ink, the black blood his tattoo turned into, it rushed to his head, and as her bullet struck him, spectral scales materialized to block it.

Fuck.

She teleports again, dodging a retaliatory kick as Emily goes for his gut. Sure enough, the black blood races to his stomach, ghostly scales forming to obstruct her shadowy fist. This time, Noriko is ready however, the fading embers, the last remnants of her Agneyastra gather, and the scales ignite. Acacius' fist punches through the flames jabbing Sigurd and delivering his payload.

Instead of retaliating this time, Sigurd opts to toss away his captured spear and beat his hand against the one lodged in his chest absolutely launching it out at absurd velocity and blowing it through the wall behind him. Darkness congeals in his hand forming a mechnical heart and the world seems to warp around him.

It feels almost like being caught in an explosion. Mizuki and Emily find themselves being forced away, not by a blast of force, but rather by the space between them and Sigurd expanding. The restaurant, the broken furniture, the burning corpses they seem to just be blasted away completely, the world being ripped out from under the squad's feet, and replaced with something else entirely.

Y'all find yourselves in a veritable dragon's hoard of spent bullet casings glistening gold beneath the sunbeams filtering from above. The dragon is dead, synthetic blood pouring from where its chest was ripped open and its heart torn out. Its blood fills the miniature caldera around which its sparking mechanical form is wrapped, faint wisps of gunsmoke rising from the cannon it had for a head.

Standing in the center of the caldera, wounds healed and arms glowing is Sigurd. This is his Sanctuary. His turf.

Spoiler: Tutorial - Sanctuaries (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Tutorial - Anomalies (click to show/hide)

Emily, Mizuki, you both are standing fairly close to Sigurd in the caldera, not in melee range just yet but not too far off, you both can close in real quick even without using any tricks. Noriko, you're further out; the two spears you didn't send to engage him are about the same distance from him as you are, the two spears you did fight him with are even further out due to getting thrown or launched by him.

A metallic three-section staff coils out of the blood into one of Sigurd's hand, followed by a very modern-looking belt-fed automatic rifle.

He's going to open fire on Emily and Noriko, not moving to close in or maintain distance.

Noriko

"Shit-!" The choked-out profanity burst out of her mouth along with most of the air in her lungs, and she slid to the ground just as the window behind her melted into the Aramitama's Sanctuary. It hurt quite a bit, and it didn't seem that her gear was quite as resilient as her previous Regalia, but she'd been hurt before. Never was a choice other than to keep fighting through it, and Fuuri Noriko was good at fighting.

Her "spears" discharged themselves, firing staccato bursts of raw magical energy into Sigurd, trying to disrupt the incoming fire as Noriko herself dragged herself to her feet to evade. They'd been knocked away, but these weren't her old weapons, they wouldn't be limited by such a paltry constraint as distance to target. Once the energy stored in them had been vented, she recalled them towards herself, mostly just trying to recover them for later use.

Mizuki

Well. Shit. It was naturally only a matter of time until the Aramitama took control, and they had certainly done good work, but now was the real fight. It had no reason to hold back anymore, no pesky Yakuza seeking death before the inevitable end trying to restrain it. The Aramitama was free. In a way, it was sort of exciting. It was a bit more exhilarating when they fought back.

Taking only a moment to readjust her gloves and take in the Sanctuary, Mizuki dove back into the fray as Sigurd open fired on her two comrades, vanishing into black smoke before reappearing one final time behind the newly awakened Aramitama, a black spear in her hand and thrusting it towards the base of his neck. She wasn't expecting any major damage to come from it, thanks to that black ink, and she was fully prepared to disperse the spear and switch to a standard sword once she had hit. The main goal here was keeping Sigurd's attention away from her teammates.

Emily & Acacius

Emily blinks twice as she takes in the change of scenery, but is quickly called back to the action as she hears the clink of an ammo belt.  She leans back on the slope of Caldera to brace, raising one hand up to cover her face.
"Guardian!"
On cue Acacius manifests a cloak-shrouded humanoid from in front of her, arms outstretched in a protective gesture to shield her from the hail of bullets.  Despite the situation the dark spirit glances over the sanctuary before he looks over to Sigard and gives the Aramitama respectful nod.
"Nice place you've got.  Why don't I have one of these?"

Spoiler: Rolls (click to show/hide)

[Now Playing: Pledge of Demon]

So Sigurd just sees Acacius straight up just T-posing at him and apparently decides that he is not going to fuck with that. Sweeping his barrel to the side, he opens fire on Noriko, wings of flame erupting from his back as he moves to dodge her return fire.

Noriko you learn a few things. First, you learn that Sigurd is fast. Not fast in the same way as Jason Humungus or the Storm Minds were with bursts of speed. No, Sigurd is proper fast, motherfucker has consistent speed. And levitation too. Second, you learn that those wings? Shooting them does nothing. You put a beam straight through one and nothing happened, you're half convinced they're purely cosmetic. Third, you learn that your beams lack the output to pierce that black blood of his. You know that because two of your spears are firing from behind him and he's not even trying to dodge them, he's just blocking them with that blood armor and focusing on avoiding frontal shots.

Last, you learn what it's like taking a burst from that gun of his. It's not pleasant. The bullets catch you right in the chest, the impact exploding through you and punching you backwards. You're not hurt, that attire of yours ain't just a costume, but the reactive armor enchantment on it has just been depleted. It won't protect you from the next hit. Best make sure there is no next hit.

It is here that Mizuki makes her move, teleporting in from the side, black spear readied to probe the Aramitama's defenses, or the inside of his neck. This was her chance. He's strafing to the side letting her set herself up for a collision course, minimize his reaction time, maximize the potential damage. Side is the best for this, front she'd have to contend with his gunfire, back the armor is engaged there already probably a lost cause. Thrust goes out but he still dodges. Almost. It's a glancing blow, the damage superficial, but there is a cut on his throat and there is blood at the spear's tip.

You all realize it then. The black blood, its coverage is limited, and it can only move so quickly. It can't protect him against a multi-angle assault. And it doesn't deal well with Noriko's flames either.

Sigurd for his part disengages, spinning backwards and discarding his gun as he deploys his staff with both hands, straight up deflecting a beam with it in the process.

Mizuki you're a few paces away from Sigurd and facing him front on. You're guessing this is him taking up a more defensive approach

Emily, you're pretty that was a bad fucking move because the effects of your poison will be setting in shortly and he'll be wishing he didn't throw away that gun.

Noriko, well Sigurd is making this whole pulling motion and all of a sudden you find yourself being bound by spectral chains and being reeled towards him with alarming speed. You're pretty sure you could just burn through those chains though.

Mizuki

There's a moment as Mizuki lets out a breath, taking in Sigurd's stance as she let her spear shatter, reforming a standard sword in one hand and a dagger in the other. She could tell that, though that ink was a nuisance, it could only move so fast. If she could simply keep up the pressure on him, Emily and Noriko would eventually find an opening to strike. Granted, in order to keep him distracted, she'd have to engage him head on, something that was obviously risky thanks to the feats of power he had shown before.

... Truth be told, Mizuki was glad she was given this chance. She hadn't felt this excited for a fight in a while.

So, her gloves transferring another curse to her blades, Mizuki advanced, dashing forward to engage Sigurd head on, as well as hopefully tagging him with her curse.

Mizuki spends the 5 at the end of her Wordline to use "Skip-A-Beat" again on her blades, as well as using 3 Alterations to boost her current roll to a 5.

Emily & Acacius

As Sigurd moves on Emily grunts and pushes off the slope of the caldera down towards the central arena, closing in on the dragon slayer.  At the same time Acacius drops his form in a puff of mist and reconstitutes in a pair of oddly articulated and clawed gauntlets over Emily's arms.

Emily aims to put herself opposite wherever Mizuki is attacking from and particularly tries to catch the black blood where it pools, letting out a vacuous thunderclap with each blow that connects as Acacius does his best mantis shrimp impression to shred Sigurd's armor.

Alters: +3 to slot 1, +2 to slot 2.
Emily consumes the 4 in slot 8 to activate Sunder in armor shredding mode.  She consumes slot 1 for her action.

Noriko

Right. This was a sticky situation, but she had the tools to get out, even if her everything ached a bit. Really not feeling right today. She channeled her spell-eating flames once again, this time putting them into half her spears and the rest conjured about herself. "Just piss off already." The flickering red fire roared to life, quickly becoming an all-consuming inferno. The half of it swirling around Noriko surged down the chains, aiming to consume their power to boost themselves to Sigurd himself. The other half formed into points once again, and drove themselves at her foe, aiming to create weak points for Mizuki and Emily to exploit.

Alter to 6, Agneyastra.

Spoiler: Rolls (click to show/hide)

[Now Playing: Pledge of Demon]

Sigurd releases his grip on his weapon with one hand and reach out to Noriko. The bullet hole in the girl's vest smoulders and erupts with gunsmoke, wisps of grey weaving into a chains and binding her. Sigurd pulls, and Noriko finds herself rushing forth to meet him, the Aramitama kicking the free end of his staff back into his hands and winding up for a swing.

Okay no pressure Noriko. Just don't fuck it up. Easy enough right? And if you fail. If you fail, well, you'll probably live. And maybe, maybe this time your allies will show concern when something tries caving your head in.

Fire flickers to life within the chains, fanned to life by your power. Smoke becomes flame as you zip past Sigurd, his staff missing your skull by mere milimeters. You've no intention of giving him a second shot, as you reach out to the closer pair of spears and send them crashing down upon them in their enlarged forms, forcing the bastard to pivot and parry to escape their wrath. You follow up with the other half of your Agneyastra discharged from your other two spears, gouts of flame erupting from their tips as they close in.

No damage, but that black blood of his looks depleted for now, its arcane protecting consumed by your spell. He'll need to respect the attacks y'all throw his way now.

Like that dagger flying at his side. He deflects it of course, reflexively too.

Thing is Mizuki was counting on that.

Lunging forwards she grabs the central segment of his staff, controlling his weapon and denying him the chance to disengage as she thrusts forward with her sword. Unable to escape the Aramitama opts to instead lean backwards, adjusting his grip to trap Mizuki's grip between the other two sections of his weapon. Mizuki's sword is disposable so naturally so simply dismisses it ...which is exactly what Sigurd was counting on, seizing the instant before she conjures something else by igniting its wings and turning its backwards lean into the wind up for a vicious headbutt.

It is here where one important fact must be noted: Mizuki ain't no bitch.

A jet powered headbutt? That ain't enough to make her let go. Not even close. So what does she do now? She headbutts the fucker right back of course!

It is Sigurd that finds himself staggering backward. It is Sigurd that find himself now cursed once more. It was a mistake to think that he could force her back. And it was a mistake to let her fondle his staff too, because now she knows all about it.

It's a fairly standard three-section staff. Actually, it is an entirely standard three-section staff. Standard in everything save for its nature - as a manifestation of Sigurd's Sanctuary. In other words, it has no enchantments of its own. No special properties. It is simply a conduit for his own natural capabilities. She could breka it if she so pleased. Permanently. But that's not the key thing here.

The key thing here is what would a rabid Aramitama do if it go headbutt by the lady now exerting control over this weapon?

Well, it's no unlikely that he'd let go. And let loose, with a punch of his own.

So when Sigurd does just that, Mizuki is not surprised at all. That's not to say she avoids it either though. Ow.

So she just sorta just takes this explosive bodyblow and it just launches back. Sigurd didn't have to launch her back with it, it would have been more damaging if he ensured all the force went into crushing her rather than just flinging her, but A: he had no incentive to let Mizuki stay near him, and B: he sees Emily closing in sporting her new gauntlets. So he had simply opted to kill two birds with one stone. Or rather one bird with another bird.

Funny thing is, it doesn't work. Instead of crashing into Emily, Mizuki simply vanishes in a puff of black smoke.

He give her a lot of momentum backwards. If she slammed into someone behind her it could really hurt them. Especially if she adjusted her position to maximize the damage.

So what if Emily wasn't behind her? What if Sigurd was instead? She did land that curse after all.

The next thing Sigurd feels is Mizuki's heel against his spine, followed by Emily's spear piercing his belly.

Well, strictly speaking it belongs to Noriko. It's her Regalia. She's still wielding it too, but it was so close by, what was Emily to do? Not use it?

Darkness rips through the weapon, a silent thunderclap reverberating through Sigurd's body, scintillating scales scattering through the air as his black blood is disrupted right as it reboots. Next comes the lightning, a three-round burst of arcane energy, discharged point blank courtesy of Noriko.

Emily can hear him panting. It's not just his wounds, Acacius' venom is setting in. Exhaustion is setting in. The three-section staff drops to the ground. Sigurd grips the spear with one hand, seeking to control the weapon and wrench it free. He raises his other hand and snaps his fingers conjuring spectral chains to bind Mizuki.

He's not going after her though, no, his next target will be Emily.

Noriko

The impact with the window took more out of her than she anticipated. Her teammates needed help. She took a moment to catch her breath, to refocus herself. Noriko collected her thoughts, save for the errant thread dealing with the spear lodged in Sigurd's gut. It actively twisted and fought against his grip, at least until it was too much - at which point she switched directions, aiming to pull him off balance before discharging the payload directly into the open wound.

Mess with Sigurd's attempts at gaining control of the spear. Spend 1 Resolve to reroll.
