I, for the life of me, can't seem to figure out how to switch weapons!

I was disarmed by a dirty kobold, and how I cant get my mace back into fighting mode..

can anyone help?

Drop the mace and attempt to pick it up with an empty hand.

Perhaps he lost his hand?
If so lose the shield... if not then you have no hands.
