CYOGTCG Wars - Team 1 Design Thread

This is the thread where you can discuss things such as tactics, complain about your team members, and review all of the cards that were designed by your team so far.

When a new design phase is declared here, you may create a new card by filling out the below template. As a reminder, there is no limit to what changes the GM can make in the name of game balance, and the actual card you get may be radically different from what you wanted.

Fields marked with an asterisk are mandatory. You may use words such as "Low" or "High" to describe stats instead of providing a number. The "Metadata" field can be used to tell the GM what you hope to achieve with your card design. The "Reference" field is for if you want to make a card that refers to things like a specific character that the GM may not be familiar with.

The GM will declare an official name for this team if/when the team members come to something that vaguely resembles a consensus on what it should be.

Alright, I see no reason to delay the first design phase any futher. Design Phase 1 has officially started! You may now go and fill out that form thingy. Any fields that are non-mandatory can be left blank if you prefer. the final card will do something even if you leave all the non-mandatory fields blank.

Card forms submitted prior to now will be processed at the end of this design phase.

Not to rush, but have a meme.


Not entirely sure if splits are a thing this game. If not, just make it grey for max advantage in the Valley. (May end up edited though.)

Also propose this be named the Royals Thread.

Ah, the silence of the lambs.

Don is a title btw, like in the mafia. So that really makes us team E*i*, if you think about it a little too hard.

Here's my idea for now.

*Card Name: Opening the Gateless Gate
*Card Picture:
*Background Color: grey
Attack:
Hearts: none? (maybe a spell, but maybe a 'building' that does persist, up to you)
Stars:
Card Effect: [something appropriate. I'm open to special resources. Whatever you give me will kind of set the stage for where I decide to go from here.]
Flavor Text: To advance results in ignoring truth; to retreat results in contradicting the lineage. Neither to advance nor to retreat is being a breathing corpse. There is no gate for you to go through; there are no stairs for you to ascend. You pass the checkpoint, squaring your shoulders, without asking permission of the keeper.

Reference: The Mumonkan, but only by flavor. I was originally thinking of a literal tomb opening but then I went a little sideways with it.

I will point out that if your flavor text is so big that it would take up the entire card, I will go ahead and shorten it for you.

*Background Color: blue? It's a ghost ship. Blue or grey could both make sense. Whatever you think is best.
Attack: medium, lower than health
Hearts: medium, higher than attack
Stars: probably 1
Card Effect: Spooks (stuns) all other cards for a round when summoned.
Flavor Text: Tough as nails.
Metadata: Ghost ship, minor tank, Ragnarok
Reference: Naglfar, the Norse ship of fingernails which heralds the end of the world.

Card Effect: If there are no Olden Plains Windmill on your field, you can play this at no cost. At the end of your third? turn after this card enters play via this effect, pay 3 Stars or destroy it. Cannot protect you from being attacked.
Flavor Text: The winds of old still blow, and the old windmills still turn. With a bit of upkeep.
Metadata: Star Gen, Self-Cost Reduction. Cannot Block.

One old building to keep the lights on.

So, after making Naglfar, I had the thought of making a couple more Ragnarok heralds - Surtr, Fenrir, and Jormungandr, maybe? - along with a spell that's more powerful the more Ragnarok heralds you have. Possibly something like "All Ragnarok cards on your side gain one attack point for every Ragnarok card in play." What do you think?

While good, make sure to have decent supports too. Olden Plains Windmill is meant to be a fairly hardy star generator, though not one that can stick around forever if you're spending said stars. Note to Supernerd, it's meant to just generate 1 star at the end of each turn. So you can either use it and lose it, or pay the cost to keep it. Or just bring out a new one without the ticking clock.
