As a hivemind:
Maxim: Not one of us is one of them. Use every means possible to separate my foes into smaller groups, to enslave them. This includes infiltrating their communications networks with false data.
Maxim: All workers must produce more for the hive than they cost the hive. Bind the enslaved groups to the task of producing specific products, while controlling access to physical resources, information resources, and their children, so their generation can be starved into submission or replaced as required.

And... I'd do this while reading a newspaper and depositing a batch of eggs.

It's desperate hiveminds. Not hivemind. Cooperation is paramount at this point.

If you were one of the worlds smarter hiveminds - perhaps ancient, formed from the connections of many clever brains through words and deeds - what would you be doing about now?
This is what you started with, but I'll try it out as if there were a multitude of these hiveminds...

Fair point.

What if everyone is a desperate hive mind consisting of one person.

They are! Your mind does add up to some kind of gestalt imo. Not purely yours.
