LGEM: Improve Surviving Undulating Cownut: Improve gut so it can eat dispersed RNA/spores in the water

This can be done, but it will be nigh useless. Those spores compose only an insignificant fraction of the total organic matter.

OK, I was trying to figure out if there was away to disrupt all the store reproduction going on (or benefit from it) but I guess spores are very small and easily dispersed. So I've amended it to a different idea.

Just that I saw a 4 at the bottom. Ah well.

Team X2
Species-wide mutation: Take 2 - Floating Sludgiballoon! Pass on it's improved reproduction method to it's kin, allowing gene sharing. In this case, improved electroreceptors for all! SS roll.
Mutation! Floating Slugibaloon mutates, specializing in actual movement and sweeping down to grasp prey in it's long slime-tentacles, draining them of nutrients, blood, and electricity before leaving the body behind. The electricity is stored/generated in a special sack within the base of the tentacles to paralyze prey.

Turn 7

The World

It all started with a simple biological mistake. A Flagellating Snatchiblie spore, like those of its more peaceful ancestors, had once more managed to combine with one of its distant cousins, namely, a spore from an Avalanche Sludgiboo. From this event, however, came no weird looking forsaken child. Something went horribly wrong. The planktonic zygote which came be failed to form itself a body due to not having the genetic stability, but its cells still split as if to grow. This small clump soon dissolved into the waters. A few cells fell upon a Diarrhea Cownut, and that seemed to be the end of it.

But that was not the end of it. In just a week time, it was everywhere. An illness had broken out on the Guguli Shallows; a contagious cancer that knew no species bounds, eating and splitting wherever it found suitable flesh.

Most creatures have premade resistances to this. Some have acid skin, some digest anything that touches it, but everyone gets a -5 population debuff. Unless you evolve immnune systems, this debuff is permanent

Surviving Undulating Cownut is extinct due to the combined effects of the plague, its deleterious mutation, and the increased predation.

Appearance of the first apex predator have lowered the predation from other predators, which higlighted the differences in complexity between them and caused a chain reaction that rebalanced the prominence of predatory species.

Team X2
Improved cross-species pollination to share traits, Take 3.
Antennaed Sludgiboo develops a crude circulatory system and attacking cells to protect from intruders. Most of the body goes through this system eventually, allowing it to self-clean harmful cells.

First case ever of a negative roll. We have invented bacteria! (Or a Virus)
Prime Root developing countermeasures, please wait.

My first extinction! I tried to save the noble undulating cownut, but alas! Gemmulation was a good idea, I just got unlucky.

I think I've worked out a viable strategy going forward... a sort of evolutionary A/B testing.

#1 Speciate into two sister species Steering Urchinite:
- A: Mutate an immune system into its open-circulatory system
- B: Mutate skin flaps between the spines to create fins for improved navigation!

#2 Speciate into two sister species Eyeful Seagranate:
- A: Mutate an immune system into its open-circulatory system
- B: Improve digestion to allow the consumption of slime-based lifeforms

(Note: I think the shallows are currently at 8/15 species, not 9.)

I find it fun the first apex Predator isn't the Perfect Predator. But there is a reason Birds are king.

Or Slimes.

That's strange. I must've miscounted at some point. Oh well.

Also, thanks for running this Magmacube, it's a fun game idea and I'm enjoying seeing how our little sea creatures develop.

Question. Are the turnips still Benthic? Since they seem to debuff all other animals.
