Maia Sanders: Should I then assign Whiteforest, Ostfalk and Baumgartner to the Exercise Complex to help them develop the skills they're lacking, and the rest to Study Rooms, Commander Shiek?

Yes, please assign those pilots to the Exercise Complex. Assign pilot Istafan to a Study Room for Interpersonal Skills, and Pilot Coutebleu to a Study Room for Crowd Control.

We shall reserve the other two Study Rooms for Pilots Lovelace and Fountainblanc to continue their training once they return.

Maia Sanders: I will do that right away, Commander.

21st Early Spring 1002
Evening
SMC OPERATION REQUEST

Maia Sanders: Commander, Subcommanders, we have a request for assistance from Endean Union in the east. One of the remote coastal villages in the Araparanu Sector have suffered a major earthquake this afternoon. Normally, this would have nothing to do with us, but first drone fly-bys indicate Mu presence in the disaster area. As it is the military forces of Araparanu are dealing with insurgents elsewhere and, as it always is, the local police department cannot spare any Mecha units to eradicate the Mu Aliens. Therefore the Council of Endean Union is asking Starlight Mechanized Corps to provide operational assistance. The utmost priority would be to destroy the Mu so that emergency responders can move in, but Endean Union would welcome any help in ensuring safety of survivors, finding those trapped in the rubble and in directing organized relief effort.

Target Area is in distant Endean Union and is therefore classified as International. Our Chiron-402 can take off and reach the destination within two and half hours, and has capacity of 4.

Quote from: Assignment Specifics
Range of Operation: INTERNATIONAL
Commencing Threat Level: Medium (-1 Skill Check Penalty)
Goals:
1. Investigate the area for potential Mu Threat and eliminate it.
2. Ensure safety of civilian population.
3. Rescue civilians trapped under debris.
Skills most likely needed:
1. Crowd Control
2. Interpersonal Skills
3. Engineering
4. Tracking

Maia Sanders: Commander, please note that due to combination of time differences and flight time, our Pilots will be arriving in middle of the night, which will be additional obstacle in locating both Endean civilians and Mu targets.

If we face more night operations, we may wish for some support item to aid us in darkness.

From Team Sword, I would suggest [Natsugawa, Ichirou] and [Whiteforest, Carla]. They have most of the necessary skills for this operation. Among recruits in Team Flame, [Baumgartner, Erika Hildegard] is notable for her interpersonal skills. [Langrisser, Eva Wilhelmina] from Team Shield should round out the team.

Pilot Natsugawa is still recovering, in terms of pilots actually available, Newy, Baumgartner, Whiteforest and Langrisser seem like good picks.

Should I be concerned that this is the second time its needed reminding that Natsugawa is injured? Might want someone to look under IAI's hood later.

I'm happy to let the new recruits give a showing here.
I briefly considered putting the whole of Team Flame forward, but this one doesn't fit Pilot Coutebleu specialisms.

Operation Orange Eyes
 - Menetfer Newy
 - Erika Baumgartner
 - Eva Langrisser
 - Carla Whiteforest

The gearheads can go work out whatever's wrong with the robot.
I'd swap out Whiteforest for Langrisser, but otherwise the team seems acceptable.

Maia Sanders: Commander, I wish to remind you that we have both VanZer models 995 and 998Plus. Which should we send our Pilots in?

Ah yes, of course. That's a decision we now need to make. Let's put those new 998Plus frames through their paces.

Maia Sanders: Duly noted. Sending an alert out for the Pilots for dispatch. Operation Orange Eyes begins now!

21st Early Spring 1002
OPERATION 6: ORANGE EYES
Two hours later

The white dot, marked as CH42-1 is moving eastwards.

A sudden ping on the strategic screen marks presence of two dots rapidly approaching the Chiron from northeast.

Maia Sanders: What is this?

The command center operators quickly tap away at their computers. The strategic screen soon affixes two labels to the unknowns: EAF-1 and EAF-2.

Maia Sanders: What is happening?

Operator #1: We have two Endean Air Force interceptors on direct course for our Chiron, Chief Secretary.

Operator #2: They're communicating to the Chiron that... let me translate... that our dispatched armed transport is intruding into Endean airspace without any sort of governmental clearance.

Maia Sanders: What? Preposterous. Endean Union is on the Council and has agreed to take part in the Corps project, and thus agreed to have borders open for our forces. Such an interception is unacceptable according to the treaties Starlight Corporation has with the Council members!

Operator #2: Well, bureaucrats in Endean Union seem to interpret law differently today.

Operator #1: Command, we have Chiron's Captain on line.

Maia Sanders: Put him through.

The holo-screen lights up and the seated Captain salutes.

Chiron Captain: Commander Shiek, I have two Endean interceptors demanding I turn around and leave immediately or be 'removed by any means necessary' from Endean Airspace and I would like to know what the hell is happening here?

Chiron-1, I trust you have already explained we are responding to a request for assistance in the Arapenaru Sector? If so, comply with the request from the Endean interceptors to leave Endean Airspace, and forward their IFF Transponder codes to Starlight Command.

Chief Secretary, please get the Endean Union Representative on the line. We need to avoid a Diplomatic incident.

Maia Sanders: I will try to get a link up asap, Commander.

The Chief Secretary runs up to the communications operators.

Chiron Captain: We did inform them that we've been requested to provide help but haven't gotten a response from them just yet. Should we plot a course back to base and give up on the mission or run circles in international space for a while, Commander?

Idle in International airspace Chiron-1, with any luck you'll be back on mission soon.

Chiron Captain: Roger, Captain.

After the change of course westwards, the Endean jets follow along Chiron.

Ten minutes later, when the Chiron clears the Endean airspace, the two jets turn back northeast.

21st Early Spring 1002
OPERATION 6: ORANGE EYES
Thirty-five minutes later

There's some beeping in the communciations area of the command room and Chief Secretary goes to investigate. She returns after few seconds.

Maia Sanders: Finally. Commander Shiek, we have, well, Endean vice-minister of foreign affairs on comms, audio-only. It seems Council representative is unavailable currently. Should I put her through or would you prefer taking this in the holo-room?

No need for the holo-room this time. Patch them through to my headset.
