Quote from: miniature cam
We need new and innovative ways to gather information without drawing attention to ourselves. The miniaturized camera is a revolutionary invention with exactly that purpose. Unlike the larger, bulkier cameras of the time, these smaller cameras can be easily carried in a bag, or hidden in an everyday object. It allows agents to discreetly photograph documents and other sensitive information.

I would much rather Project Oculus explicitly be developing computing/calculators for this purpose, rather than a vague "they might make mechanical aids". As it stands I cannot vote for it, and definitely not put credits on it.

Quote from: project Oculus v2.0
Our Eve Coastguard gathered signals, but they seem to be encoded.

A team of mathematicians, engineers, and cryptoanalysts is called together to break the cipher. They will be tasked to find patterns in the messages we picked up, or using statistical analysis to identify likely words or phrases.

To aid in the decryption process, the team builds an early, mostly mechanical computer, dubbed the Oculus machine. It uses complex electrical circuits, vacuum tubes and rotating drums made out of levisteel to rapidly test different decryption methods.

Quote from: Design: "Green Solace" Proxy Gavrillium-Skeptic Activists
Yes, industry may accomplish great things burning Gavrillium, but has anyone considered the public health and environmental consequences of Gavrillium emissions?  As GGPRO engines go international, the concerned scientists at Green Solace have questions.

"From lethargy, to respiratory illness, and even infertility, the potential health risks of Gavrillium emissions are unlimited.  Has Selicate state industries even done its homework before letting the Gavrillium genie out of the bottle?"

"While naturally we respect the Westphalian sovereignty of the Selicates, they've recklessly begun foisting Gavrillium emissions upon Harren and now the Old World.  We believe the international community should learn the truth about Gavrillium emissions, and decide for themselves appropriate remediations."

Green Solace is a mix of international propagandists, provacateurs, and general useful idiots organized as a well-meaning "apolitical" non-profit group.  Their "science" is best described as dubious as a whole (suffocating a rabbit in a confined space with hot Gavrillium fumes goes as you would expect), but the risks are plausible enough to be believed by those who wish for them to be true.  Speaking of people who wish for Gavrillium to be derided as a public health risk, the Petroleum Producers Institute is greatly appreciative of Green Solace efforts and openly provides charitable donations to them.

And it goes without saying Green Solace is "under control" of our intelligence and security services as a deniable proxy organization whose propaganda is functionally opposed to the Selicate military-industrial complex.  (Sharing Gutenberg mimeograph materials & products would be an obvious course of action.) While it is highly unlikely our "Gavrillium-Skeptic" messaging will penetrate the South, in free societies like Harren City GGPRO engines (and thus the Selicates) will become mistrusted.  Turning Gavrillium emissions into an albatross to hang around their neck will surely give us an advantage in soft power influence in both Harren City and eventually the Old World.

Probably being too clever again, but might as well throw this out there.  In modern terms, it's an astroturfed grass-roots proto-environmentalist movement that conveniently is fanatically critical of how SFS has decided to use their special resource.  I'm pretty sure game rules say we can't modify each other's SR, but I think it's a safe assumption that Gavrillium doesn't burn clean.  And even if GGPRO turns out to be some unforeseen green energy source, "the science" doesn't need to be true for the smear job to damage GGPRO's reputation.

Albatross and Condor are Normal, both taking reasonable steps forward using what you have with your experience.

The AUWP is Very Hard, since you're breaking into armored vehicles for your armory using something much more powerful than a typical tank, reduced somewhat by the semimobile bunker's plug 'n' play requirement for the time being. Note that making a tank of equivalent power would also be Very Hard at the least, it would be a bit more powerful than your "typical tank".

Miniature Camera is Very Easy. It's well within your technological capabilities.

Changing my vote to v2 of project Oculus.

It is functionally the same, but adds a few details that team members requested:

  • It now explicitly says that an early computer will be developed, no more weasel words.
  • It includes vacuum tubes as a component of said computer.

I'm trimming out some of the unvoted entries. If you want to vote one you can add it back in. I still want the UAWP, but I have voted on credits for the Oculus. Finally, I'm keeping my vote on CORGI as we need another means of entry into South Harren and thatll only get harder as the game goes on.

I changed my mind, that mech prototype is a cool thing to have going on as a secret project. This creates a tie, so the next voter can have the final word. Will vote again on credits in case Oculus comes out on top.

I reckon both that we could stand to get some other fundamental tech going before we try and produce a mech and that we *need* a computer (or just cryptography work, worst-case) a hell of a lot more than we need a mech right now, given that encrypted enemy messages and getting communications to our spies in enemy territory have just presented themselves as prominent issues.
