Subject Nine [SG]
« on: January 30, 2023, 03:22:34 pm »

Your body feels uncomfortable all over.

Your head hurts, a lot.

As your vision begins to fade in, a white room comes into focus. Light is coming through windows in the opposite wall. You're... you're in a bed. You look to your left, and then to your right. There are more beds, but although you can make out figures in some of them, you seem to be the only one awake. Your eyes scan the room, and finally rest on the doorway, to your right. A sign over it has the words "Coma ward" written in bold, clear letters.

"You're awake?"

You turn back to your left, and standing over you is a tall, pale figure wearing something resembling a combination of a robe and a coat, all in white. His face is professional, but friendly. He begins to speak again.

"How do you feel, Does anything hurt?"

Down at the bottom of the ocean. Beneath tons of brine which would crush you down. Not into broken and splintered flesh, but into thin soup. Into just more of the sea water. Where things live that aren't so different from you, but you will never live to touch them and they will never live to touch you.

Your response is Mumbly, and contradictory if listened to closely, but the answer that floats to the surface is "I do not feel anything except for this bed." His face doesn'tt change.

"Good, that's good, the Doctor will be here in a moment."

He jogs over to the door and says something to someone down the hallway, and an elderly lady with grey hair arrives after a moment. She strides up to your bed and gives you a warm smile.

"You're awake, and you can speak, that's good, that's very good."

She pulls up a chair and sits down. She's wearing the same white robe-coat as her colleague, but she's quite a bit taller than he is, though her skin is just as pasty. She pulls out a clipboard and pencil, then begins to speak again.

"Do you know where you are?"

Starting this in the middle of college was a very bad idea, but this story is one which has been bubbling away in my mind for actual years now so even though this was just started I'm gonna toss it straight into a proverbial orphanage 'till summer... I'll see youse then.
