Bio: Born in Exeter, Jon was orphaned from a young age and taken in by a friend of his parents, Peter Hawkins, the owner of a law firm in London. Growing up amongst lawyers, Jon proceeded through his education with plans to join his caretaker's law firm. Over the course of his study, he met and began a relationship with Mina Murray, as well as meeting her close friend Lucy Westenra. He became engaged to Mina soon after passing his SQE, and was given his first assignment, personally picked by Mr. Hawkins as a gift to celebrate his passing, as the wealthy client, one Count Dracula, had offered to pay for his representative's travel to his home in Transylvania and back, including food and a stay at several comfortable hotels. All things seemed set for Jonathan, gainfully employed with advancement in his future and a forthcoming marriage to the love of his life, only some unexpected catastrophe could shake his life off track.
...needless to say, an unexpected catastrophe soon made itself apparent. While the first portion of his trip was as comfortable as expected, as he neared the home of his client, concerning circumstances began to occur. Locals who he told of his location became afraid and attempted to dissuade him from finishing his trip, and when he told them he had to, they offered him prayers and talismans of protection. While the situation was concerning, Jonathan attempted to push it to the back of his mind. After all, he could hardly turn back now and tell Mr. Hawkins he had been too frightened to complete the job he had specifically gifted to him, after all, all this talk of werewolves and witches was not but superstition... yes of course. The trip to his client's home did little to settle his nerves, with the people he rode with sharing the same fear as the other locals, and his first interaction with the man's staff a mysterious carriage driver who refused to show his face and seemed to be able to control wolves.
His host, at the very least, seemed a pleasant, if a bit odd, man. He made certain that Jonathan's accommodations were comfortable and well-stocked with a variety of interesting books, and made excellent dinner conversation, speaking about the history of the region and his own line, as well as asking Jonathan about England. All the rooms were well kept and dinner was excellent, even if Jonathan never saw any servants... or any other people at all, not even the count at any hour before dinner. One day, after a strange occurrence wherein The Count reacted oddly to a shaving cut on Jonathan's neck and the crucifix he had been given by a concerned local, Jonathan's curiosity about the home of The Count grew too much for him, and he set out to explore a portion of the castle that The Count had asked him to avoid. Inside he found what appeared to be a young woman's quarters, and come nightfall, after he had fallen asleep by accident on a couch, he met the women who lived there, a trio of beautiful women who attempted to eat him as he lay there, only saved by the timely intervention of The Count, who presented the women with a sack containing something alive.
Come the next night, and the arrival of a local woman screaming for her child, the mood in the castle began to shift. Jonathan would often awake feeling faint and disoriented, and while The Count's behavior did not change visibly, Jonathan began to discover evidence someone was going through his things, attempting to read his journal and letters, and the door of his room was locked from the outside. He began to explore the castle by crawling around the outside, hoping to discover the secrets of his host. One day, The Count entered his room and directed him to write home, telling Mina and Mr. Hawkins that he would be staying with The Count for some time longer, and did not know when he would return. Fearing the worst, Jonathan began thinking on escape, despite the risk of the wolf filled woods and long trip home. In one of his final explorations, he found The Count laying in a death-like sleep in a coffin, his face bloated and blood stained, and curled into a mocking smile. In a desperate attempt to kill him, Jonathan took a nearby shovel and attempted to cut off The Count's head, only for the look in The Count's suddenly opening eyes to drain the strength from his body, and the shovel left nothing but a shallow cut on The Count's head. Fearing for his life, Jonathan fled into the woods.
He did not remember how he got back to England, only a few quick splashes of memory, the next he recalled he was in a hospital, being taken care of by Mina. For weeks he faded in and out of lucidity, desperately attempting to convince himself that his ordeal over the past few months was nothing but a delusion. Then one day, Dr Van Helsing arrived. The man told him that no, his experience had been
very real, and that the same creature that had held him prisoner, the vampire Count Dracula, had followed him to England, and had killed Miss Westenra and her mother, transforming the young lady into a demon that her fiancé, Arthur Holmwood, and his friends Quincy Morris and Jack Seward had needed to kill with the help of the doctor. Traumatized as he was from his experience, Jonathan couldn't sit by and let a monster that he had let loose hurt innocents, much less people he knew. The newlywed couple joined the others, and so The Crew of Light was formed.
The team got to work, tracking down Dracula's many new residences as well as the man himself, all the while suffering constant attacks. While many they were able to repel, either through Van Helsing's knowledge of the weaknesses of vampires or... the necessary application of force, others they could not. In one such attack, Dracula attacked Mina while the men were powerless to stop him, and forced her to consume his blood, slowly transforming her into a vampire, and granting him the capacity to spy through her eyes. However, the same ability was granted to Mina, who used it to aid in the process of tracking down the count. With a time limit now over their heads, and a personal attack on his wife, Jonathan began to work like a man possessed, forgoing sleep and food when he could, what little of his natural dark color remained in his hair bleached white as the days passed. Finally, with the location of each of Dracula's coffins and known, the crew got to work, Van Helsing and Mina traveling to Transylvania to destroy the castle and The Count's brides, while the other men split up to destroy the other coffins and track down Dracula. Finally catching The Count's carriage traveling during the day, The Crew attacked, fighting their way through Dracula's servants to get to the sleeping monster. Finishing what he had attempted so long ago, Jonathan cut off Dracula's head with his kukri, as a fatally wounded Quincy drove his knife through his heart, slaying him, and freeing Mina from her curse.
A year later, Jonathan and Mina had a son, a young boy they named Quincy. For ten years they lived in bliss, staying in close touch with Jack, Arthur, and Dr. Van Helsing as the only ones who would ever believe each other's mysterious and horrifying memories, and standing as living guarantees to each other that it had not been just an elaborate delusion, or at least that they had all gone mad together. Jon settled into a comfortable life, free of undead menaces and general horror, having become a partner at the firm and inherited Mr. Hawkins' estate when the man had unfortunately passed away of gout. However, one day as he walked through London's streets, he once more saw an all too terrifying and familiar face staring at him through the crowd. Paralyzed with fear, he wasn't able to move out of the way of the Model T automobile that had come off the road as it slammed into him.
He awakened in a place full of far too familiar scents and sounds, the likes of which he had hoped to never experience again after what had happened 10 years ago. He looked around to see unfamiliar faces in strange clothes, people of many varied ethnicity and dress, before his eyes settled on the pair walking in the door. He didn't know who they were, or why they were here, but the way they held themselves, and the look in their eyes, told him everything he needed to know. He remembered that exact look on each of their faces when they had formed The Crew of Light so long ago. These were Vampire Hunters.
Lord help them all.
