Vampires are too easy to identify
« on: September 26, 2023, 06:12:04 pm »

Currently in modern Df, it’s possible to identify a vampire by noticing their light green skin, regardless of wether they are hiding their identity or not. This defeats the entire point of the vampire. Their true appearance should only be revealed if they show their identity.

If you're so sure that you're gonna end up killing all of dwarven civilization, why not make a statue depicting 2147483647 dead dwarves, all of which are burning? Name it something good, like Deaddead the Dead Dead Dead-Dead of Dying. Just put it in the main hall or something, as a grim reminder that they're all gonna die.

+1, though in fairness it's really only a slight decrease in challenge from the ASCII version. If you've ever gone ahead and checked a vampire's inventory they almost always wear excessive amounts of hair/bone/fingernail jewelry from their victims that (in my opinion, anyway) gives them away just as blatantly.

It's actually pretty terrifying to think about having all of your fat melt off into grease because you started sweating too much.

I was thinking changes to the graphical tile should only occur while drinking blood, same as the change to tooth length defined in the syndrome.

Honestly it's a great joke now. Yeah, a hidden appearance for people using pseudonyms (not.just vampires do it) would be cool.

Should probably be limited to hair styles, presuming they even have hair.

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.

Pause and recentre "Agoxo Mightwatches was revealed as a alias!" kind of announcement, would be good for intellidead and their ilk too to reveal their palid expressions after they've successfully disguised themselves as living people.

Almost all my vampires are bald, so a wig would be great.

I don't think vampires should be untraceable. Maybe if they just have subtle changes that people won't notice 100% of the time. Like instead of being green, they would have a slightly greenish tint. That seems good. Or dwarves can spawn bald but also vampires are usually bald. So you can't be 100% sure based on that one fact.
Make it a challenge or something rather than removing it outright.

Then there could also be aspects of dwarves that obscure the fact. Like say a mutation or other blessing that makes dwarves have different colors.

also there should be a small chance the vampires are just easily traceable. a little variety.
