Water, Caverns, & Friends
When we split from the others, we entered the jungles, and eventually came to this place. Not told is why, what led us here? For a time our tribe lived within the jungle, hunting, gathering, never settling down. And then our shaman had a spirit dream, of a deep blue and speaking fish lading us under it's waters. While wary, our people followed the river through the endless rains to the sea. And as it lashed away at us, we heard a cry through the storm, leading us to safe harbor within a natural cave.

Here, where the rains thundered upon the rock, we came to meet the dolphins. Strange fish that breathed air, and showed intelligence similar to ours.  Though trade and errors, we eventually came to work together, the dolphins leading us under the water to great fishing grounds, and aiding us in learning to sim with them. Strange air-releasing grasses allowed us to stay under longer, and more caves were found. Monsoon Point is a place where many underground caverns formed over the retreat of the Ice Wall, buried under time and wave. Luminous moss, edible mushrooms aplenty, and many strange fish that threatened the dolphins. It is this where we helped, hunting these beasts with our new friends, and making tools to hunt along the river as well. With food aplenty, we thrived and made the water our home.

Ok so now that the weekend is over and I'm no longer drunk it's back to the original fishe for me.

The lightning whales are hilarious as a joke but I want a captivating origin story and this isn't it. The two tribe plot is what I always liked most about the proposal.

Plus let's face it, whales aren't even fish.

To be clear, the Lightning Whales are not intended to be a joke, they are intended to be a compromise. Me, personally, I'm okay with all three leading options, but there are folks who are resolutely opposed to either the Fishe or the Butifel Thunder.
The actual whales are more fantastical than the leviathans, but the proposal as a whole is more grounded, cos it lays out a path towards Dishonored-style teslapunk tech (which, while not realistic, is 'low fantasy', as it were).
It is obviously less grounded than the Fire in the Sky proposal, and does leave the path to biopunk on the table. This means we can organically decide on a direction as we go on, rather than trying to force ourselves down a single path right from the start.
The proposal ties into our unique environmental conditions, in that the whales harvest lightning from the storms, and are easily accessible to neolithic people because of the storms.
It ties our early culture to the shore, meaning we could embrace a nautical theme if desired.
For those who are concerned about cultural foundations, the narrative bit lays out some stuff that we could build on later if desired- praise the sea/storm/whale. It's maybe lighter on the cultural details than other proposals, but that's partly because I'd rather our culture develop organically over time.

At least, that's how I see it. I tried to write a proposal that a sizeable majority of people can approve of- even if it isn't necessarily their favourite proposal. We're all in this together, and starting things off with a proposal that half the team hates is a recipe for disaster. Of course, you can't please everyone, but you can try to please as many as possible.
