Fire Emblem on Forums: Chains of Horai Redux
[Game Theme ~Take Me Under~]"There was a raging demon that was here twenty years ago. Tokiwa-douji, they called him. The Demon of Tokiwa, who came from the mountains."
"They said he apppeared on a night with no moonlight, in the imperial capital and killed a shrine maiden. They said that he was beautiful, when he was a young man, but he once tasted blood and wanted at once to become the worst monster the world had ever seen to get that taste again."
"....I don't think that's true."
"What would you know, Mizuno? Were you there? Lord Ashikaga sealed him away, you know. He sent him deep into the mountains, far away where nobody could ever find him."
"...I don't know. That...it doesn't seem right. Nobody just...is a monster like that, right? It doesn't make any sense."
"Why not?
"Well, why? Nobody's born a monster. I'm...something had to happen to him, right? Nobody becomes a monster just because they're born that way."
"...it's just a story, Mizuno."
"I just think that...a monster comes from somewhere. They don't just appear. Something...makes people monsters."
"You'd try to save anything if it came to you, pleading for help. If Tokiwa-douji himself appeared right before you, what would you do?"
"If...I thought I could save them, even redeem that little bit of goodness in them....I would. Some people...they just need a bit of faith, believing in them so they can believe in themselves too."
"...you're crazy, you know that, Mizuno?"Welcome to Fire Emblem on Forums: Chains of Horai Redux!Spoiler: Who are you? (click to show/hide)You are one of the following:
- An apothecary or other member of staff of the Mizuno Pharmacy heading down to the imperial capital of Soumahara with Rin, who have been tasked with first dropping off a caravan at the Sangonomiya Shrine outside the capital.
- One of the mercenaries and brothers-in-arms of Todoroki Guren's Todoroki's Thousand Swords, a mercenary company tasked with protecting Rin and the other Mizuno Pharmacy officials heading to Soumahara.
- A traveler setting out from Mount Kaikuma for their own reason who has been granted permission to accompany the caravan.

Whatever the case, eight of you have chosen to (or been pressed into) being here.

(OOC Note: Do not worry about overlap or what best fits the party. I care more about if your character is interesting. Being the sole representative of a class that is often considered essential is not a guarantee of getting into Chains of Horai Redux. You will be starting at First Class and you will have an extra 4 points to allocate; no stat can go beyond 10.)

(Further OOC Note: As this is a reboot of Chains of Horai as we have lost all of our plot notes from Chains of Horai, we decided instead of scrapping the whole thing, we'd give it the old college try with new resources and a new shiny story, this time with all of our notes backed up on multiple computers this time. Anyone who signed up for the original Chains of Horai will be given priority but otherwise anyone is welcome to sign up. Of things to note:
- The Gnosis System and the Combat Arts do NOT apply to this version.
- There are no Juunishi this time. We went with something else.)
Spoiler: Important Data Files (click to show/hide)Lore of Horai - Geography - Must Read!
Lore of Horai - Other - Must Read!
Lore of Horai - Youkai - Must Read!
Map of the Land of Five Kingdoms
We'll be using Player's Handbook 3.Elf unless otherwise noted.

We will also be using my personal class supplements as follows:
- Untested, Unconventional and Unarmed
- Gun Supplement -- Ask permission before playing the Aviator or Engine Knight classes.
- Mainline Classes -- The Extra classes in this supplement will be available for play.
Spoiler: Rules Changes (click to show/hide)- Progression caps on non-HP stats can be conditionally increased up to a total of 100% and to a minimum of 0% depending on GM discretion.
- There is no permadeath in Chains of Horai; downed allies will be incapacitated and unable to participate in the next map after their incapacitation.
- Cavaliers may promote into Great Knight. Great Knights have 6 MOV to compensate.
- Characters may exchange Sword for Whip Proficiencies  and Axe for Fist Proficiencies at the discretion of the GM.
- You may start with any weapon of C-rank or below that is not a Devil Weapon, a Siege Weapon or equivalent if they have C-rank proficiencies, and D-rank if D-rank proficiencies arep resent.
- For every 20% growths put into both STR and MAG, you gain 5% growths to put into other stats. Maturity and other Skills that affect Growths, as well as the First Class and Promoted increase, do not count towards the 20% for this rule.
- The Tags Youkai, Bird and Beast are considered equal for the purposes of this game and characters that start with Beaststone or Dragonstone proficiencies will have the Youkai tag attached. Characters who elect to start as part of the Youkai race will also have the Youkai tag added.
- Affinities may be selected at character creation, referred to as Birth Animals, and have been changed as follows:

1. Rat (Water)
2. Ox (Earth)
3. Tiger (Wind)
4. Dog (Anima)
5. Snake (Dark)
6. Horse (Fire)
7. Rabbit (Ice)
8. Dragon (Thunder)
9. Monkey (Heaven)
10. Rooster (Light)
There are also three new Affinities not present in normal FEF:
11. Boar: - +2.5 Hit, +2 points to buffs received, +2.5 Critical/Dodge
12. Sheep: - +2.5 Eva, +2.5% Skill activation chance, +2.5 Critical/Dodge
13. Cat: - +0.5 DMG, +2.5% healing effectiveness, +2.5 Critical/Dodge

In addition, Threat Attacks, Great Monsters, Press Turns, Talk and Life Points are in play.
- Threat Attacks: Powerful attacks that hit multiple tiles, triggered by attracting the attention of the attacker. Threat Attacks are marked with red squares over the tiles that will be hit and will activate one turn after they are triggered.
- Great Monsters: Monsters that occupy more than one tile, have massive HP counts and have Threat Attacks of their own. They reward large amounts of EXP for defeating them.
- Talk: Certain marked enemies will have the option to be Talked to, which grants the talker items or EXP. If an enemy is made to leave the map through Talk, EXP will be gained as if the enemy was defeated through combat. Some enemies can be Talked to after certain conditions are fulfilled, but enemies that are attacked while Talk is enabled for them will no longer accept being Talked to. Furthermore, certain enemies will be weakened when Talked to.
- Life Points: Certain enemies will have Life Points, which allow them to be healed completely upon being reduced to 0 HP at the cost of that point. Life Point expenditure cancels all Threat Attacks launched by the wielder that have yet to land.
- Press Turns: Certain bosses will have multiple moves per Phase. Depleting a Life Point destroys all of their Press Turns for that Phase and if Talk is used correctly Press Turn points can be reduced.Spoiler: Class Changes (click to show/hide)First Class:
- Cavaliers can choose between Swords/Lances and Axes/Lances for weapons.
- Pegasus Knights may choose between Swords and Lances for proficiencies.
- Shaman’s Ancient Gamble trades 1 SPD for 1.5 MAG (rounding up), instead of 1 SPD for 1 MAG.
- Wyvern Knights may choose between Lances and Axes for proficiencies.
- Soldier's Anti-Cavalry activates against Monsters as well as Cavalry.
- Classes that rely on items for their Class Skills (i.e. Apothecary, Brewkeeper) may start with an additional buffing consumable, status inflicting, status restoring or healing item (aside from Concoctions, Elixirs and Nul Needles) of their choice.

Promoted Classes:
- Shadow Sword’s Marked for Death doesn’t apply to the overall bosses of a level, but can be used on midbosses and other named enemies.Spoiler: Character Sheet (click to show/hide)Name:

Bio: If Kaori would have had her way, she would have lived very quietly in the Amatsu countryside, thank you very much. Even if she was the half-youkai daughter  of a local shepherdess in an Amatsu village, a country rife with Pure Land adherents. Yes, she'd heard the rumours - she'd have to be blind to not notice - but hey, what they didn't know wouldn't hurt them, right? If they kept thinking she wasn't a half-youkai, all would work out, right?

Well, that was until that weird priest came to town. Using some strange magic, during an incident that she wasn't sure wasn't deliberate, he'd somehow managed to reveal that she was half-youkai. And suddenly, the entire mood of the village changed. All of a sudden, she was no longer welcome and had to flee for her life.

But where to? The answer came from her grandmother, who had once taken up a professorship at Mizuno Pharmacy and still had various connections there. It seemed safe enough so, off she went, slipping across the border to Hokuto and eventually up Mount Kaikuma. There, at Mizuno Pharmacy, she soon found her practical farming experience valuable in helping give practical hands-on demonstration in animal handling and herbal use.

Also, of note, was that Mizuno was where she'd befriended a certain diligent bullied girl, whose plight she very much sympathized with. So much so that she'd been more than willing to volunteer her own services in ensuring her friend completes her delivery task.

Bio: Takamichi Seiya was born the second son to a merchant family in Izumo. His father, Akiyoshi, managed the trade ships, often going on travel, and his mother, Kairi, was in charge of family finances and distribution. While busy, they were always willing to take a moment out of their day for their children. Growing up, learning numbers and hearing of their father's travels instilled a desire to see the world himself, and when he came of age, he took on a caravan for himself and set out to explore the five kingdoms and make his mark.

His journeys across the kingdoms were sometimes harsh, other times easy, but always fun. He established many connections, which allowed his family to expand their trade routes, before eventually meeting the love of his life one day, Liane. A child born in Avropa, she had come to Ryukyu to study magic at their academies. While they couldn't stay together long, they did trade letters when they could and were eventually married with the approval of their parents.

Their lives split between two countries, but they raised two sons. Their eldest, Rafael, joined the priesthood, inheriting the love for travel that characterized their childhood. Daichi learned from his grandparents and started a store, finding his wife in Izumo and giving birth to their daughter, Tressa.

Rather impressive, the passage of time split in two. Stories told of the past, but this story is only just beginning. Takamichi Seiya, Takamichi Liane. The husband is an excitable man, tempered by age and travel. The quiet wife, an expert in magical studies, is currently in Avropa. And inquisitive Tressa, desiring the same thing others in their family desired in the past, to see the world for themselves. Seiya has taken on Tressa at his son's request. Not really a burden, though having to help teach her the bow is needed, given the road is not always safe. And so we come to the present, as a caravan travels from Mount Kaikuma for Tressa's first look at the imperial capital.
