((feel free to pester the other players in double parenthesis))

((Cough cough Sorry Cough cough))

Anna-Leigh absorbed the recent developments.

Alright, absorbed was a strong word. She participated in recent developments the same way that stools participate in weaving. They're there, they're used by the weaver, but are about as capable of grasping the real construction of baktiari as Anna-Leigh was of adequately parsing what was going on.

"I'm... Anna-Leigh..." She heard herself say to Fren somewhat vacantly, taking care to stress the extra space in the middle so it didn't sound like 'Annalee'. "I'm really sorry about offending your bodyguard into being attacked by a green-sounding restaurant named Dragon. I assure you, that was not my intent." It truly wasn't.

Anna-Leigh found a place to sit down. She really didn't care where. Her brain was having difficulty working out a plan of action and her legs were deciding that meant they shouldn't have to continue working.  She looked down at the bodyguard again and mouthed 'sorry' at the fallen woman. There didn't seem to be a lot else to do for her.

"So... uh... Dragon. If we're safe here, and you're bound by law to make sure we're safe, does that make us prisoners here?"

Try very, very, very hard to neither be a prisoner nor make the situation worse.

I'm currently unable to muster the ability to write.  So in interest of not holding up the game, plain boldtext.

Francesca will check her bodyguard to make sure she's healthy, both normally and magically.  Assuming the bodyguard isn't hurt, she'll nonchalantly tell Anna that it's fine, and gently admonish the unconscious catgirl.  Then she'll ask Anna if she can help her drag Shadesoul out of the building, as it would be best to get her home.

Francesca hopped from her stool to squat over the unconscious Shadesoul, seeming more excited to see the results of whatever it was that Dragon did than concerned that the mercenary might be hurt. Anna-Leigh sits in the newly vacated seat, perhaps too overwhelmed to process the other available stools.
[color]"Of course not! I could never inflict harm on you by confining you to my own halls. Besides, there is much good for you to do out in the world."[/color]
[Medical 3d6: 4 Knowledge+2 = 6]
Fran puts a finger on Shadwsoul's neck to take her pulse, and breaks out into a cold sweat when she realizes that there is no pulse! Not sure what to do, she focuses her brain and tries seeing with her magic sight. Shadesoul bubbles with a calm gray light, whirling with hooked spikes which ever so gently glide over the surface of her aura. She gives the feeling of a sleeping tiger: power and danger in a resting, passive state.

That's when the door at the front of the shop swings open and Spice Falls On Ring Shadow flies in, followed by a girl who skids to a halt after leaping through the entrance.
[Continued below]

"Good luck??" Violet gives an awkward wave. "No, really don't get hurt out there!" She shouts after Icatrina, who ran off to the mysterious bistro with all haste. Spice Falls swings the door open and Icatrina flies through it, stumbling to come to a quick halt even before she has a chance to really survey the room.
What she sees is maybe cause for alarm, an augmented woman in a sharp suit lies on the ground, out cold cradling her firearm, and there are two other girls who are described like this:
Quote
Slight of frame, Anna-Leigh is slightly on the taller side for her family - but this is saying only that she'd come just short of average. Long fingered and slim boned, Anna-Leigh tends to neutral or contemplative expressions - and her poor vision since birth means that while her facial expressions are honest - she's terrible at reading them and her own are a bit... off. Shy by nature, and having spent much of her young life training as a weaver, she rarely draws attention to herself and is often half-shied back from any significant grouping of people.
Quote
Taller than average, and a little overweight.  She wears white pants, a heavy belt, and a long white coat, all festooned with many pockets and pouches--half of which tend to be filled at any given moment.  She only ever wears heavy boots (much to the chagrin of the maids), and of course, she's virtually always wearing a smile; you're never full dressed without one, after all!
... The former is sitting at the restaurant's counter, next to what appears to be a full breakfast. The other is crouched beside the unconscious woman.

"Everyone is here! Let's go, love!" The blue-eyed drone buzzes nervously.
"You're being hasty, Blue, I haven't even introduced myself to this one yet." The room itself replies.
"Seven might die! You can introduce yourself on the way!"
"Okay, okay. Everyone, brace for flight!"

But bracing is not necessary. The front of the shop is mostly one giant pane of glass, so all three girls are clearly able to see the ground and village outside suddenly grow very small as the entire building rises into the sky at an alarming speed. But rather than being thrown to the floor by the force, they're merely highly disoriented by the very fact that they're not thrown to the ground by the force.
"I dearly apologize for our haste, Icatrina Shinrasia. I am The Dragon. And my bumbling, rude partner here is Spice Falls On Ring Shadow. We were hoping for a more casual introduction, but one of the girls we helped awaken is in danger and we need your help extracting her."
Clouds are whipping past outside, as the restaurant flies to some unknown location...

Diane does a little hop over the ring of burning embers and beats a retreat. None of the small children pursue.

[Focus 3d6: 11 Awareness+1 = 12]
Once safely back in her room, she stops. Okay, focus. She closes her eyes and does her best to process and then ignore the various sounds and buzzes around her. With those eliminated, other, stranger feelings emerge, clouds of color and smell and emotion which blot a sphere around her, many-faceted and incomprehensible, for now. The buzzing radio static song of the sun, its light out of view, but other radiation still... visible? Audible? Both and neither. Rebels on walkie-talkies giving un-urgent, routine calls. Clear. Roger. Over.
None of it matters. However many senses she has, Diane doesn't need to heed them. Acknowledge and disregard. Her awareness turns away from all of these things and searches inside. She feels... anxious. Excited. Maybe just a tiny little bit guilty. Hurt. As the adrenaline and swirling perception and emotion fade out the pain in her burnt shoulder only grows stronger. It's... not the most terrible thing she's felt, but hardly ignorable either. Okay, acknowledged and not discarded.

What to do? This might be tough to explain to her aunt and uncle. Tough, but hiding her injury seems like a bad choice. Maybe it's best to be honest in this situation? How would they react? It wouldn't be hard to prove that she can use magic, but what are the consequences of that knowledge?

[Take Me Seriously! 3d6: 12 Charisma+1 = 13]
The taller of the two glares at Kora, stops to think, and then sighs, hesitant to engage.
"Fuck you mean whose in charge? If you ain't in the know then fuck off, lil' bit', yer probably just some 'sheriff's' daughter."
Ah! It's dismissive, but still speaking Kora's language. She's being told to fuck off, not ignored, which means...
"And if I don't leave, what then?"
Again, the taller gives Kora a contemptuous look, but obliges the challenge, hanging her coat and cigarette on her compatriot before stepping into the street. "And we were having such a good morning..."

Facing 1x tall punk. Her knuckles gleam with brass.

Seven brushes away at the dust, which seems to fall off her outfit more from the intent of the thing than her actual actions, leaving it pristine and leaving no potentially embarrassing remnants of her unplanned reunion with planet. Handy.
The three Rangers waste no time in making themselves known, rounding the corner of a tent with an eerie silence. One peeks into said tent and fires off a burst of three shots while the other two simply keep advancing. They wear all-black tactical armor and a smooth glass face shield which hides any expression, and each hold N13 assault rifles loaded down and an unnecessary amount of likely useless attachments.

The three walk up to Seven without any hesitation or outwards aggression. Seven greets them with her best attempt at de-escalation, which happens to involve calling their dead comrades an "eyesore" that was "bothering" her.
[Aggro 1d6: (need 5+) 6]
The one in the middle makes some hand motion which causes the other two to turn around and hold angles. He speaks. "Ma'am did you see what destroyed our support chopper? You should come with us, it's not safe here for a girl like you."

"Yeah.. I should tell them.  Magic is awesome.  And when I figure out how to use it properly, it'll only make it more awesome!

..I mean, what's the point of doing awesome things if I need to hide it forever.

..still, I think I should keep the best stuff hidden.  My best punch should be one nobody sees coming."

"And I'm hurt.  Lets try to fix that up first, with magic.  They don't need to know I burnt myself."

Shut my eyes again, and try to see the pretty colours again.  This time, focus on my shoulder, trying to see the burn and the pain of the burn.

..If I can manage that, use my creation magic to make something out of the burn.  Turn the concept of the damage into a small object, like a crystal.

Icatrina glanced around, her arm still limply holding the woodchopping axe by the axe head to her side. Her eyes first settled on the person on the floor, who apparently is already being cared for, then on the other people in the room, before looking out the window and seeing the motion, of the building taking flight. after a startled silence, she finally spoke up, still looking out at the
"Um, so... why do you need us? What can we even do to help?"

I might have to take a policy of autoing characters if there's no action after 2 weeks. I say this because I really want to see FMD continue. Should I message the waitlisters?

Ah. They're clueless.
"Ah, I'm not sure. It looked like some sort of awful winged creature, but I haven't heard of anything like that?"
If they're offering to take me off of the battlefield, follow them. I'm an uninvolved civilian from what they seem to know, and I'm running out of mana to continue the fight. The gunner is down, and I have to hope that's enough to give the militia a chance.

((Sadly, yes.  I'm being a terrible player and if anything I'm degrading, not improving.  I'm very interested in the game and want to continue playing it, but that's obviously not happening.  I can't give any excuse or consolation, and it's likely that someone else is available who would enjoy my slot more and make better use of it.  I'm sorry.))

I genuinely can't think of how Francesca would react here.  This isn't why I've been so delayed (I only read the post today, and I think it is an interesting subversion of my expectations), but it's why I'm not making real boldtext.  So... Francesca checks over Shadesoul's vitals, asks Dragon how long she'll be unconscious for, and probably greets Icatrina.  I do not have the ability to write in Francesca's voice at the moment.

Alright, I'll start working on an update soon. Unfortunately Draignean doesn't seem to be on the forums any more and didn't seem to receive my PM, so Anna-Leigh won't have a player... at this stage it seems simpler to retcon her out of existence than make her into an NPC. Hopefully it won't be too jarring, uhh Shadesoul must just be taking a catnap.

After this, I think I'll change the rules of how I update a little bit; characters will be autoed a week after the turn.

That blank mask looks through Icatrina for a long second.
"A creature...?" The man sighs. "It seems to be gone now, this is a matter for later. Follow us, and stay in the middle!"

[Aggro 1d6: (need 2+) 1]

Seven follows the rangers through the battle-torn camp, sneaking past a long prefab building with the sounds of battle on the other end. The squad skillfully weaves through the battle avoiding any contact, it's as though there's no fight happening at all, if not for the screams and gunshots close at hand. Even those slowly start to die out, becoming more and more infrequent...

They've reached the edge of the camp before there's any problem. And there was no warning, just a loud CLAP and one of the Rangers' heads falls off, splintering apart into pieces of meat as it tumbles down into the sand.
"S-sniper!"

The remaining two rangers waste no time getting low to the ground, crouching behind some rocks. The cover looks slightly inadequate.
The other side doesn't immediately reveal itself... At least, there's no immediate follow-up shot or allies blasting with assault rifles.
[Spotting 3d6: 11 Perception+1 = 12]
Judging from the loud gunshot, the sniper is in the direction of the old prison, whose silhouette rises ominously in the distance. Logically, one of the guard towers!?
Combatants: 2x UAUNIR Rangers vs 1x unknown sniper

[Fight'n 3d6: 13 Strength+1 = 14]
[Punk's Fight'n 3d6: 11 Beating Up Children+2 = 13]

Kora approaches confidently, which the young punk responds to with a straight kick, hitting Kora in the chest thanks to the thug's greater height, and thus reach. Kora shrugs it off, steps closer, and punches the punk in the nose hard enough to knock her back a step. That elicits a yelp, and then a strong impact of brass into Kora's shoulder. She grits her teeth and knees the punk in the groin.
This continues for just a couple more blows before the punk concedes by taking a couple steps back, panting to gather her breath. Kora hurts... just about all over. But she feels that she got the best of this one!

"Darrie! Shoot this punk!"
The shorter of the two punks laughs at the fighter, putting out her cigarette. "Can't just shoot a kid 'cuz she's beating ya up, silly."
"Hey! I'm winning! Just you watch!"
[Insight 3d6: 4]
Damn, this punk is tough, if she still wants to fight. Guess ya better keep beating her up?

A small cylindrical floating metal thing appears in Kora's sight.
"Hey! Hey you! I see you're having fun, but there is... a way more fun fight if you follow me!"

Diane closes her eyes and lets the pretty colors enter her brain again. This time the static arrives stronger and brighter, and she's specifically honing in on it. There's a rush and then her vision fades, or.. becomes less prominent, the whine of the air conditioner becomes impossible to pick out, her hands and feet become numb. Almost everything is just that shifting, hazy shape.
[Learning 3d6: 11 What Even-2 = 9]
She pokes around that haze for some time, but doesn't find anything in it she can recognize. Her real senses slowly start to drift back, mainly a throbbing pain from her burn.

((Unfortunately Anna-Leigh no longer exists, and has never existed. So, uhh))
Shadesoul the mercenary slouches in her seat, leaning on the counter and snoring loudly. Apparently she's drifted off into a catnap.

The smaller blue-eyed robot darts back and forth nervously as it answers Icatrina.
"In this particular situation, ideally we shouldn't need your help but- well, any help is good! Backup plans and all. In case Seven- the girl who we're going to extract, is wounded, your healing abilities would be appreciated. There is a, um, small, very small chance that combat may be necessary for this situation. Of course, I would greatly prefer if you all could receive training before you need to fight with your magical abilities..."
"You should understand that we are a scouting unit, not combat. When the two of us became aware of the Vour's presence on this world, our options for direct intervention were... limited. Your souls are much more suited to success in conflict."

Suddenly the sky outside of the restaurant is replaced by buildings, and with absolutely no sound the Dragon plants herself into an empty lot in the town.
"We have not arrived at the area of operations. We are here to collect two more girls for more support. They in particular will... prove necessary if combat is initiated."
The blue-eyed robot zips through a small window without slowing down, disappearing from sight.
