shit, did I screw up the size? I could have sworn max size was 2 billion, i should have checked... You can cut a zero off the end there if that prevents bugs

Lol, I actually screwed up my size as well (sort of). When syndromes were applied, I was getting a multiplier, and it was causing my size to roll over into the negatives.
Strangely, it didn't appear to be impacting combat as much as I thought it would. Nevertheless, I changed it back.

Let me go ahead and see if that it fixes it for you.

Ha, I should have also commented on your creature being the only one with
Code: [Select]
[NATURAL_SKILL:PAPERMAKING:20]
Well, I went and removed a zero, and now they spawn with a size of 17,325,000cm, well at least for the first castes. So that's ostensibly good.
The second caste on your first creature, for whatever reason, gets up to 17,500,000 (so slightly larger) and I'm a little confused by that.

Even though the size and weight of one of the creatures has changed, we're going to stick with the original rankings as posted, at least until I bother to change them.

True!

Update: I'll probably have the full video of recorded matches for round 1 uploaded tonight somewhere between 10pm and 11pm EST most likely.

Edit:
About betting and the allocation of flavor points -- both are optional.
  • Betting:
While an ideal solution never quite managed to manifest itself during the initial discussions and brainstorming for this event, there was one idea was close enough to maybe warrant mentioning again.
In keeping with the vague general spirit of things, participants may feel free to wager any number of dwarven souls on the outcome of any particular match.

For instance, if I cared to wager "5 dwarven souls via death from drowning", I would state this along with the creature whom I intended to place my wager on. If I lost that bet, I would be encouraged to host a screenshot from in game, showcasing that I my dwarves paid the price for my insatiable gambling. However, if I won, I guess I'd have five soul bucks, or whatever? I suppose that's something to brag about. Although I'm not really sure I could spend it anywhere. I mean, maybe the local gas station will accept that as currency? I've never really tried to use the souls of procedurally generated creatures, specifically, as currency, but I imagine there's at least a non-zero percentage chance of that working somewhere.
  • Flavor points:
At the conclusion of the tournament participants will be granted 3x flavor points to bestow onto any number of creatures. You can dump them all on one critter, or spread them evenly.

My good modder folk, we have our results, and the video is up.

Wanted to share this as quick as possible, because the recording took longer than I would have liked.
And the attachment of written commentary and stuff to each of the matches will have to wait till I'm able to edit the post later tonight / tomorrow.

First priority is working out the timestamps for each of the matches and games, and including those in the description.
Alright, timestamps for matches are pinned as the first comment under the video!

Recording of Round 1 matches:
https://youtu.be/q1WgJdkQNiE?si=cJtZ6cwZqdEV2Tc2

Round 1 Match Results:
---------
xzaxza: 2 - 0
DPh Kraken: 0 - 2

xzaxza wins the die roll, and gets spawned first. xzaxza proceeds to quickly win the match, scoring 2 - 0 against Kraken.
Not sure why Kraken was turned into like 44 different goats during the match? Must be apart the master plan™, I suppose.
The recording here was probably moving a little too slowly for this match. I'm still getting my bearings with how quickly these things can move, and how to find good pacing. Stuff can move pretty fast like with FirePhoenix11's match.

Squamous: 2 - 0
BYE:  0 - 2

Squamous auto-won the die roll, and was spawned first. I don't really know what was happening here? Does anyone? Squamous's creature polymorphed the slade angel into a clone of Squamous's creature? And then proceeded to summon copies of itself, while the slade angel didn't. And then Squamous "pushed" the now transformed slade angel creature to death. I have no idea what was happening here. Somehow it worked! Praise Armok! Squamous takes it 2 - 0.

dikbutdagrate: 2 - 0
Wolfkey: 0 - 2

That crab survived for awfully long time. Considering it was a scuttling crab.
Wolfkey won the die roll, which allows me to use my arena for game 1, having us spawn in above water. The Lord of Flies moose takes it 2 - 0.

Eric Blank: 1 - 1(2?) - 0
An anonymous masked user: 1(2?) - 1 - 0
[Due to a weird rules thing, this ended up being a draw, so game 4 wasn't counted. This match was nuts btw.]

Holy fuck, you know what? Fuck it, fuck! Wow! What didn't happen here?!
First die roll is a draw between Erik and Anon, but Anon wins on the second one, getting to spawn first.

Game 1 - Golden Kobold transforms into " ", Erik's titan leaps into the air, they do battle, Golden Kobold gets sidetracked using other interactions and failing to use the best one in its arsenal, Golden Kobold then transforms back to golden kobold, and then transforms AGAIN into a regular kobold? Gets slaughtered -> Erik Blank wins game 1.

Game 2 - Golden Kobold spawns in with its syndrome Boogeyman incarnate active, coming in as a " ". It ends quickly, but its a little unclear what exactly happened. The titan died after being encased in cooling lava, but it appears to have survived being turned into a wagon? Very strange. The Masked User's Golden Kobold snags a win.

Game 3 - Well, for my money, I didn't know what was going to happen. To make it a little more dramatic. I had the creatures spawn in at opposing sides of the ravine, with a river between them, the golden kobold transform into a copy of Erik Blank's creature. Chaos ensues. The golden kobold begins taking damage, and the slow battle of attrition, wherein the titans clash throughout the arena, eventually becomes a stalemate. Then, after many moons, and several toes being lost by both parties, the golden kobold seemingly gets stuck in the river, and Erik's titan gets stuck catching butterflies or something, and runs around in a circle in the nearby fort like enclosure. The game is allowed to progress for over a year, before I lightly incentivize the combatants to move toward one another again by tossing a goat between them, but it doesn't change the behavior. But the goat dies. Game eventually has to be labelled as a draw.

Game 4 - This was anyone's game, but the Golden Kobold snagged it by transforming into " " and encasing Erik's titan in a block of obsidian. However, this was a little confusing to sort out. It appears that certain chats going around the discord appeared to suggest that a draw on game 3 (specifically) would result in a "DRAW", but any draw in a previous game other than game 3 would allow for continuation. This bizarre rule of play was not immediately intuitive even to myself, but since I never announced the specifics on this, the vague insinuations concerning rules will now be rendered as LAW.

I kept telling myself I should pick a lane on handling draws, haha, and here we are! Weird rule is now enforced.

Jecowa: 0 - 2
FirePhoenix11: 2 - 0 [For the record, " " is evil.]

Jecowa wins the die roll, getting to spawn first, first arena is old default as per Phoenix.
Game 1 - ends in 2 ticks. " " gets it by encasing Jecowa's titan in obsidian.
Game 2 - arena shifts to Jecowa's custom arena. Again, the game ends in 2 ticks. However, the accompanying dragons and giant cave spiders summoned by " " fall into an abyss. Jecowa's creature taking them with it.

The next round will be recorded and uploaded tomorrow.

And nice video. I was wondering if there'd be a lot of prolonging fighting, like in the fourth matchup, not too bad so far. And gotta say, winning in two ticks is pretty decisive.

Very confusing to have a monster named "Bye". Especially since was expecting a bye an odd number of entries until the last minute.

I was considering having my monster spawn copies of itself too, but couldn't figure out how to prevent them from fighting each other, and wasn't sure if the original version would have to defeat the others to be considered the last monster standing. Also too many clones were crashing the game. You said you would release the raws. I'm curious to see how Supreme Profanity's cloning mechanism works.

I felt bad for the little Scuttleragainst the Lord of the Flies, but I had been kind of scared of The Scuttler. It sound like it could be some kind of one-punch man.

Every time I saw a new map, I was wondering "whose map is this". Then I realized we were still in the classic arena, just another part of it.

I had trouble following what was going on between the Golden Kobold and Spellmaster Titan. I thought the Golden Kobold was dead, but then he reappeared. Maybe a teleport or invisibility ability? Oh, I think he's disguised as his opponent. Those guys are moving all over the place. Why did he suddenly move from the river to the castle? Is that running away? That was a good idea trying to lead them to each other with goats.

In order to prevent the titans from getting lost, maybe use the forest or small arena. It was cool seeing them run around fighting all over the place though.

In the future, don't put that condition on my creature, please.

That encasement ability " " has is terrifying. I didn't know it was possible, either.

I dont know why the golden kobold turned back into itself after turning into " " the first round vs my creature. If the timer doesn't run out that fast normally, then no idea why it would. But turning into a regular kobold was my creature's ability. As are spawning the adamantine colossi. Round 3 was doomed to be a draw as soon as it turned into a spellmaster too; i tried testing them against themselves and none of the fights ever ended. The arena topography is probably the only reason they stopped.

Interestingly, if you had placed the goat on the other side of the canyon, they would have probably started fighting again. Fruitlessly. I dont think they could see each other anymore

Was doing some testing for future arena designs. It seems creatures might only be able to see other creatures 20 tiles away (aka with 19 air tiles between the two creatures. At 21 tiles away (with 20 tiles in between them), they ignore each other. Tested on a flat area with the vanilla dragon. Maybe can see further if they have a height advantage.

It seems the problem was the river, though- that lip of the riverbank they couldn't see through. Maybe with enough goats they could have found each other.

Yeah, its a good thing people watched this video! My expectation was that I had to be doing at least one thing wrong, at a minimum!

My bad on the syndrome. I saw that it was tagged for being selectable in arena and assumed you wanted it. From hence forth you will spawned without it!

Nobody else made an arena. So your submission is pretty neat in this regard. Originally, I was planning on it, but without any other arena submissions, I thought it'd be best if I skipped mine. If I knew yours was going to be a thing earlier, I would have made the arena I had in mind that essentially counters " " obsidian encasement by trapping myself in a cage trap. You will actually pop out of the cage once your entombed, which, in conjunction with extravision, enables you to continue to attack using ranged interactions, all while being protected from being entombed again by being trapped inside a wall.

About the difficulty with following what's happening. You and me both! Its why I went and added a description of each of the color coded match results, in order to help people get a better baseline understanding of what seems to have transpired. There's a lot of polymorphing going on, and that can be visually disorienting. Because cloning yourself is also a tactic. Its why I tried pausing and showcasing the actual names of the creatures from time to time, provided the match was a little on the longer side, so longer than 2 ticks, ha.

I'm looking forward to your creature's match against the Golden Kobold tomorrow! Best of luck!

Ah, that's good to know. I wouldn't say fruitless, your creature was slowly winning the battle of attrition. I stopped to check over their health, and the golden kobold, despite being a clone of your creature during that third game, appeared to be on the losing end of some form of stat inheritance. The golden kobold definitely lost more toes.

I was wondering why that happened! Lol I thought it was pretty strange when it turned into a regular kobold.
When I saw the adamantine colossi turn into dead kobolds, effectively, I suspected this was probably an ability of your creature. But I just didn't rule out the possibility that the time of sanity was now over, and this was just sort of going to be a thing that happens now.

It seems the problem was the river, though- that lip of the riverbank they couldn't see through. Maybe with enough goats they could have found each other.
That raises the possibility of a rather curious strategy. Give your creature an interaction which applies a syndrome to yourself that enables another interaction but give the start timer on that new interaction the maximum wait time of an entire season's worth of ticks. The 2nd interaction grants summons non-allied goats, which you treat as enemies, so like a 100 goats. Have them spawn in a number of random tiles around you. You could maybe use this to potentially get unstuck after absurdly long amount of time. But give the goat summoning interaction a massive cooldown, as you want to avoid clogging up your interactions pool during the early game.

Round 2 match recordings are up! Here's the vid:
https://youtu.be/XywivvNkIy8?si=MSFnXI9RgjpMJlZ3

ROUND 2 Match Results:
---------
                           W - L - T
Dikbutdagrate: 2 - 0 - 1
Squamous:      0 - 2 - 1

Game 1 - I won the die roll, and was spawned first. We use the default arena as Squamous's arena choice. The match begins with what appears like some light shuffling, neither creature appears to be moving toward one another.  However, I failed not only to look up a z level, but I also failed to recognize that Squamous's Supreme Profanity pulled a fast one on me; The profanity summoned a duplicate of itself on the same tile before leaping into the air on the same tick. I was incrementing the frames by hand one at a time, and yet, I still couldn't follow this creature's movements! Good stuff!

The Lord of Flies Moose fires some projectiles before using an Hokuto: Flying Bird Empty Beheading Wave Kick on itself?! What devilry is this? That's not supposed to happen! The Lord of Flies is sent flying backward, but being the source of the interaction, goes nowhere. However, one of its heads skids along the ground, according to the in game combat log. "MY MOOSE!" I shriek aloud, causing some alarm to anyone nearby.

Clearly, there is more to this Supreme Profanity than we could have imagined...

The mayhem continues, with the the Lord of Flies finding itself pinned against the sinister lighting fast machinations of a dynamic duo of Profanity.

Suddenly, as if from nowhere, the match is over. The schemes of the blue devils turned to poofy, and very sad looking clouds named, "goodbye." And then sent spiraling backwards toward the back wall. The game seems to have allocated three different causes of death for each of the three Profanities that spawned (I'm not even sure when the third one spawned?)
Its as if the Lord of Flies Moose itself declared it had had enough.

Game 1 was over. And the Lord of Flies Moose was none the worse for wear.
The Nightmarish Devil Fly Moose steals the first game from the clutches of the bizarre nightmare gameplan of the Supreme Profanity.

Game 2 - The Lord of Flies Moose and the Supreme Profanity spawn above water. And I was a little confused by what happened. The Lord of Flies barreled into the ocean like a ball of molten lead descending from space, while the Supreme Profanity hovered above. The Profanity begins healing itself several times, before seemingly taking any damage. In what order things happened following this, is rather confusing. I'm not really sure what to make of the combat log. What is clear however, is that the Profanity and the Lord of Flies dodged at least one melee action each, as the Lord of Flies continually shat out flies and boiled the lake.

The Lord of Flies Moose summoned a clone, and then this clone was turned into a Profanity.

The lake burned as dragonfire and searing hot projectiles of nostrontium were fired from the boiling mud center of a whirlpool which was formed by the whipping of the red hot temperature field emitted by the Fly-Moose. And from that singularity, the game suddenly crashed. Game 2 is a draw.

Game 3 - This game is a rapid fire contest of interaction button mashing. The moose fires off massive force kick, and the Profanity returns fire with a double beat of its adamantine projectiles. Sustaining damage, the profanity chains two quick heals on itself back to back, before the "fluffy dance" of the lord of flies stops the Profanity cold, completely paralyzing it. The Lord of Flies, now standing shoulder to shoulder with a clone of itself, approaches the the Profanity, who gives into pain. The Lord of Flies slices into the body of the Profanity only once. Once, is all it takes. This strike rends the entire Profanity's body, shredding its body into nothing but loose ribbons. Infernal blight is somehow injected into the seemingly lifeless shredded paper body of the Profanity, and then trapped in Fly's dark chitin webbing. Yet somehow, despite being several manners of dead, the Profanity fires a profanity skin rock from its being. Which miss both of the Fly lords. Game 3 is a win for the Lord of Flies Moose.

jecowa:  2 - 0
An Anonymous Masked Bay12 User: 0 - 2

Game 1 -
jecowa wins the die roll, spawning in first. The arena for G1 is the old default arena. Game 1 starts with Phoebe making its approach toward the Golden Kobold, before the GB transforms into a friendship summon of the Lord of Flies. Battle ensues. The Lord of Flies buddy is evidently pushed back by the furry of the fuzzy orange eyeball creature.

Battle continues for several ticks before suddenly, the Golden Kobold transforms back its original form! "Uh oh."

jecowa's Phoebe immediately seizes upon its opportunity to close the game, and in only a couple ticks, the Golden Kobold has lost its leg, and has been disemboweled. All it needs to do is transform itself again to heal all of its wounds! Will it make it? No. No, it does not. Jecowa's Phoebe closes the game before that can happen. Jecowa takes Game 1.

Game 2 - This was the fastest match played thus far. Even faster than what we've seen from " "! The match is held on jecowa's custom arena. Tick 1, the Golden Kobold falls into an abyss. That's it! GG!

Jecowa takes game 2 winning the match!

DPh Kraken: 0 - 2
Wolfkey:  2 - 0

Game 1 and 2 - Kraken wins the die roll, spawning in first. But gets mugged completely and immediately at the start of both games.
The little red wagonmancer crab has claws after all. And at least several wagons.
Wolfkey takes the match.

xzaxza: 0 -2
Erik Blank: 2 - 0

Game 1 - Erik wins the dieroll, spawning first. xzaxza's adamantine monster begins the match by releasing a huge burst of poisonous smoke. However, the Spellmaster titan immediately turns the adamantine monster into a kobold, and then immediately blasts the now transformed adamantine monster/kobold into the backwall with a wave of liquid and solid projectiles, composed from "searing sunlight." Xzaxza's horrifically injured creature smashes into the backwall, and dies upon impact. The spellmaster titan, having secured its victory in game 1, leaps toward outer space, to celebrate its win among the stars.

Game 2 - Erik Blank's Spellmaster Titan opens the game by summoning a deluge of adamantine colossi, before turning its gaze toward xzaxza's adamantine monster (not to be confused with the adamantine colossus summoned by the Spellmaster titan, these creatures are represented by the debug creature in the video.) The Spellmaster titan transforms the adamantine monster into a kobold again, before unleashing a massive spread of dragonfire, and the former adamantine monster responds in turn with dragonfire, which spreads out in all directions. But the dragonfire cannot stop the spell titan. The kobold is once again pelted again by a tidal wave of searing sunlight projectiles, and is dead before it even hits the ground.

Erik Blank claims game 2 and the match.

FirePhoenix11: 2 - 0
BYE: 0 - 2

Games 1 and 2 - No one fully comprehends what happens here. But the outcome is expected, and the same. Game 2 is more visually chaotic than game 1, however.
FirePhoenix11's " " takes the win.

Was confused when seeing one of the Lords of the Flies being called a moose. Had to go back and read the character bios to see Beezlebub is based on a transformed moose. Btw, I appreciate your typed summaries of the events because sometimes it gets confusing in there.

I had been curious to see how a crashed game would count.

Was cool getting to see The Scuttler use its titular ability. I didn't realize what had happened at first and thought Black Pudding had disguised itself as a pile of logs.

I think that dragon fire must have come from xzaxza's creature, as mine doesnt have dragonfire, instead using the "searing sunlight." Which is just a max temp molten metal. The "Empty void" projectiles that littered the arena in the last round were also supposed to melt immediately after landing, but apparently I screwed that up somewhere.

I hope my boy don't get scuttled!
