Ramp around a central pillar quickfort/blueprint?
« on: December 02, 2024, 04:54:31 am »

I am obsessed with using ramps instead of stairs everywhere possible. But digging a 3-tile wide ramp from the surface down into the magma sea is a pretty slow and painful process. Especially as I ideally want the ramps to go around a central pillar which I would later dig out completely, to have a central shaft. I haven't found any sort of blueprint/quickfort plan but maybe I'm not looking in the right places. Does anyone know of such a thing, or of some other way to speed up the designation process?

Macro it... You record four levels of designations, then press ctrl+p 30 times to designate another 120 levels.

It helps to develop the design in blueprint mode (the button in the mining menu), then record the design by overwriting the blueprint (including that last step of positioning the cursor where you would start the next playing of the macro).

There is something to be said about, if the stakes are as high, maybe reconsider your certitudes. One has to be aggressively allistic to feel entitled to be able to trust. But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

if you are playing premium dwarf fortress then in order to create macros you need to enable 'keyboard cursor' in the settings. after that, anewaname covered the basic idea. I believe it is still cntrl+r to toggle recording of keystrokes, followed by cntrl+s to save the macro, cntrl+l to load macros, and cntrl+p to play the loaded macro.

I dont blame you it is horrible to manually designate multiple levels of spiral ramps, so definitely learn how to macro it. it will be rewarding

Ramp around a central pillar can also allow you to have a giant vertical wooden axle running down the spine of your fort! Just don't fall in.
