New 'mytical' drinks in fortress Mode
« on: December 13, 2024, 11:12:57 am »

If I equip my dwarves with a uniform comprising of a flask, and that dwarf ends up in combat, will he drink it? Or does it need to be a 'mytical substance' before he would drink it?

Will it be possible by modding to create craftable mytical drinks, that my dwarfs in fortress mode will drink in combat?

Does it actually say “mytical” and not “mythical”?  If so, that’s a (very minor) bug.

When a dwarf has military orders (train or patrol, defend zone, etc), they may start a "drink " job if they have a flask with drinks in it and they are not currently doing anything, but if they are in combat they will not stop to drink from their flask even if they are about to become unconscious or dead because of thirst. You will even see dwarfs attempt to bring them buckets of water while they are fighting (memories of forts collapsing because all the dwarfs were fighting animated yak hair still haunt me, those dwarfs died of thirst).

I don't know if there is code for mythical drinks that dwarfs might drink during combat.

Inorganic globs with [MYTHICAL_SUBSTANCE] will be consumed by seriously injured creatures in combat.

Does this happen in fortress mode, or is it only in adventure mode?

I would assume it happens in either mode like other general creature behaviors. Getting a creature to carry a mythical substance with them in combat in fortress mode would likely be difficult though.

What about DFHack?

Previously there was a problem with vials full of golden salve being carried by soldiers, which prevented them from carrying drinks, because the player was producing a lot of golden salve.

If the plants file were changed so some plant produced that mythical substance using the "process plant to vial" job, you could fill all the fort's vials with that substance, and if the problem still exists of soldiers picking up already-filled-with-a-non-drink vials, you could get them to all carry that substance in vials.
