Goblins/kobolds instead of dwarves after adding a new ev
« on: February 18, 2008, 08:15:00 pm »

OK I've created my EVIL race (just as dwarves, but the evil and with another core creature) but now in adv. mode I have no dwarves (they are on map) but instead elves/kobolds/goblins and CHIMERA!
Why can't I play my usual set human+dwarf+elf+ new Illithid (indiv. controllable. For now I can just "play now" illithids)

Maybe you have a duplicat creature or entity somewhere.  Duplicates cause that kind of thing to happen.

If you renamed any raw files recently delete everything in the data/objects folder as well.  Renamed files can sometimes create duplicates of creatures in that.

(the game actually reads the data from data/objects. Every time the game starts it converts the raw text files to the format in that folder.  But it doesn't delete the ones that don't have matching raw files.)

Check the errorlog.  Duplicate creatures will show up there, at least some of the time.

Also, [INDIV_CONTROLLABLE] only activates the "Play Now" feature.  You won't be able to select which site they come from unless you add [ADVENTURE_TIER:-number-] to their entity profile.  Make sure to select a number that hasn't already been taken by another entity.

code:

Duplicate Object: creaturebody 4FACE_TENTACLES
Duplicate Object: creature DUERGAR
Duplicate Object: creature ILLITHID
Duplicate Object: entity ILLITHID

I can't find how it could be duplicated... I have 3 custom files (creature/entity/body) with single entry in everyone... Can it be bad that the entity is called by the same name as the creature? And what with body?

First, delete stuff in the data\objects. You might have deleted a raw file, and its 'compiled' version remained in the data.
Second, check the original raw files. If you went by my guidelines (copying then renaming a file), you might have edited an existing file, the copied it, renamed it, deleted all extra entries in it, but forgot to delete the modded entry from the original. Happened to me a few times too.  :)

It was some bug from ld compilation.
The main problem was the same adventure tier as for dwarver =).

Same adventure tier is not a problem. Entities within the same tier will sort themselves by race index, as per the changes for 38a.

So that's what that meant.  Toady leaves some rather confusing notes at times...

In MAm, the driders and drow have the same adventure tier. I didn't see any problem with that. I might add the goblins to the same tier for the next release, because playing them without equipment is not as fun.

Btw, I think I have an idea for the next release, regarding goblins...  heh heh heh.  :)
