Anyone have a good word-list generator?
« on: March 24, 2008, 05:33:00 pm »

I've got a couple of entities that I'd like to use in my game, and while I can just use the language files we've got, I'd like to give them unique ones.. without coming up with a custom word for each and every entry. -.- Anyone have a lead on something to generate a bunch of "words" based on some user-inputted phonemes etc?

This is a great name generator, and can be customized easily, so you could probably make words with it.

Unfortunately that doesn't have enough flexibility for what I want.

BUT! I found Chris Pound's page (glad it's still around) at: http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~pound/

..which is just the raw scripts, and is a little too compsci for me at first. But he's got links down at the bottom, and eventually I got to: http://www.fantasist.net/wordmaker.shtml

..which does do what I want, although the output sample is a little small; nice because it gave me an idea of how Chris' scripts work (especially werd) so after you play with that, you can do up your own script for other results. It's still good enough to start with. There's some other good things at fantasist but they all end up in 404 errors, so I shot off an email and we'll see if any get fixed. -.-
