Nist Akath - The Complete Story
« on: November 13, 2007, 05:32:00 am »

New and Returning Readers, please refer to the below LP styled archive.
It's all in one place

Here's the offloaded save, after the victory of the Soulsmith. It's a few years later.

And here's the fortress save, still active - this cannot be offloaded without special software tools.
************************************************
Yet another community fortress. Why, you ask? Why not, I say!

In any case, I better preface this with a story.

The following takes place in the Windy Lands, Amethalina.

Captain's Log. First entry.

I lost my last logbook, somewhere in the exploratory shafts. It appears I must start anew.
My prospecting company, The Great Picks, finally set off today. Our prospecting went middling well this winter. I doubt the penpushers will be pleased, but stuff them. Undoubtedly I'll be punished in some way for failing to find riches where there were none.

We still retain much in the way of our supplies. Undoubtedly we'll use them when we set out again, for some other godsforsaken part of the world.

Captain's Log. First of Spring
We crossed the glacier, the Wretched Winter of Jackals, heading east towards home. We figured it a shortcut. We never expected our wagon to break down in the middle, stranding us.

There's no possibility of walking out, its too far, and too cold. We have only our mining equipment. Hopefully we can put something together to survive.
With luck, we won't be stuck here until winter. It's spring now, and still deathly cold. Come winter... I don't even want to think about that.

In this way, I name this place Nist Akath, Fear the Winter!

The map is not encouraging for our survival either.

Luckily, I have a group of good, handpicked dwarves, to assist me.
===============
From here it's up to you guys.
I need six names for six other dwarves.
We'll eventually get immigrants, so if you want a particular gender, let me know, and I will accommodate.

Otherwise, please let me know your job preferences and I will do my best to accommodate.
Answer me these questions three!

What... is your name:
What... is your favoured profession:
What... is your gender?

Right, I forgot you can't reassign the outpost leader position, I figured you would take that. Can I have book keeper instead? It's fine if not though.

Sure can. Need one of those.

Now, then, Sillehboy won't get a male until immigration. 3 ladies up for grabs though.

I was like, ha, this looks like a pretty dumb and boring game. I was so wrong. Gentlemen, I have discovered true fun.

Some dwarves thought it invasive to have extensive personality profiling of their companies. I, however, thought it prudent. I thumbed through the manual, determining their reliability in this new circumstance.

I checked BurnedToast's ledger on materials we had present.
It appeared we had plenty. But if left in this cold, it would surely be ruined.

I pulled my hood tighter as I peered out onto the bleak, cold landscape.

Nothing.

As far as the eye could see. Only the minor undulations of the landscape varied. The rest was just flat and snow.
White everywhere. Undoubtedly after this venture I would loathe the sight of it.

It would surely have not been so bad had there been some life, other than ourselves. A beacon of hope, in a land of death. But there was none. Our only hope lay below.

I took a pick. I'd swung one in my youth, and I'd swing one again.

"Right! I don't care what you think your job is, if there's a pick left on the pile, I need you to grab it. We'll save ourselves by the sweat of our brows! STRIKE THE EARTH!"
