What track clearing mechanisms might the engravers have employed, I wonder?  Perhaps a gravity ramp with a 2-cart system, one to clear the path and one to ride in?

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that I can no longer continue to update this series. Sadly, I just don't have the spare time anymore  :-[ .

I've pushed one last big update: Chapter 4

But fear not, fans of the Puzzling Seas, you can download my game and continue the story: https://cyanoshare.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Dwarf-Fortress/Puzzling-Seas/PuzzlingSeas_456-01-13.zip

Again, I'm sorry I couldn't finish the bridge. I hope that I've entertained and inspired you all. :)

Farewell!
