I think I'd be happy to find a dwarf that doesn't speak with a Scottish accent.  What's with that anyway?  Did that happen in a movie or something, and everyone just assumed that all dwarves in every possible fantasy setting speak with a Scottish accent?

It confuses me.

I picture my dwarves as having Clint Eastwood "talk through your teeth" accents.

Arcanum dwarves were always my favorite. King Loghaire Thunderstone was probably one of the wisest dwarves (or possibly characters in general) that I've ever seen in a video game.

Sappho:

1. As seen in Star Trek, all the best engineers are Scots.

2. In most fantasy worlds, Dwarves are the best engineers.

3. Dwarves are the Scots of high fantasy.

As for my favorite Dwarf, some Shadowrun book had a flavor story in it with some Dwarven Bear Shaman who was, like, totally righteous. It might've been one of the various editions of the core rules...

I love cyberpunk and steampunk.  Not that this has much to do with this thread other than both genres have been mentioned, but I felt the need to address it.  There needs to be more games in those genres.

As for my favorite non-DF dwarf, I'll have to go with the stereotypical Gimli.  Not the comic-relief Gimli from the movies, the badass elf-tolerant Gimli of the books.

Probably the dwarves from the first LotR books, in the Hobbit.  Silly, desperate, clumsy, superstitious, and yet full of adventure and they made you smile and love 'em.

I need to read that book again, I've forgotten most everything from it... Hm...

I absolutely love that your first argument comes from Star Trek.  Seriously, I giggled a bit.  :D

Of course, if we're going from reality (overrated but still highly relevant), all dwarves should have German accents!

(Sorry if my German sucks, it's been a while!)

I'm partial to the "dwarf pirates" ("wokou" in Chinese) that were active in East Asia between the 13th and 17th centuries.

Of course, in this case the word translated as "dwarf" is really just another (rude) word for "Japanese".

How about a Discworld dwarf wielding a loaf of Battle Bread?

But what do I know?
Everything I say should be taken with atleast 1 tsp. of salt, and another liter of Dwarven Wine is recommended.
