Minor flood problem
« on: August 11, 2006, 09:49:00 am »

After discovering how wonderful farming is, I was more than eager to make one in the next game. Right after I dug to the river, I planned a floodgate at the water. Unfortunately, I ran into the river during a flood and it spilled into my fortress (up until the door, anyway). After it receded, I noticed it washed off the floodgate plan and here's the problem. It's not there, the dwarves don't see it, but the game apparently still does and dissallows me to place anything on that tile. Basicly, that dissallowed me to block snakemen from entering (although the traps did anyway) and my fishermen from hazardous fishing during flooding (although I COULD've placed a door, I desperately needed food due to the slow down on farming). Later it turned out the fish my fishermen got moved to 0,0 and so they wandered off to get killed by wild animals. :\

As much as the losses caused here weren't too high, it could've been worse, like washing away a full hallway of trap plans, that could render the whole hallway unusable. :S

If the game still thinks it's there you should be able to remove it with t, x Id've thought.

etter than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick which has been dipped in sulphuric acid and had razor blades inserted into it. Probably.

Yeah, I'm curious in what way the game sees it -- is there a channel there?  Visible in [t] view?

Apparently the fish got (0,0)'d too...  seems to be happening to all sorts of foods.

There was no channel plainly visible. Can't check anymore since I abandoned the fortress after my dwarves went to get killed and didn't think of checking with T at the time, sorry. :\

That's all right -- if there's a problem with cave river overflow on planned floodgates, it'll probably happen again soon to somebody.

Yeah, I've got it, and I'll look at it tomorrow.  Hopefully I'll be able to sleep again.  10 or so small things to do and I'll post another one I think.  Then we'll start getting down to the main problems being interfaces, mysterious crash bugs, job priorities, other stupidity, other stuff and various things.

I've located and fixed this problem -- there was a persistent building flag for flood gates -- you can place and destroy blueprints and corrupt your whole map if you want.  I've also written something for busted saves to clear the excess flags.
