The Underdark?
« on: July 15, 2008, 09:10:15 am »

I'm stuck at work with a computer that breaks down and weeps if I try to run DF on it, so I'll have to ask those of you with profession: Adept Worldbuilder - is it possible to set the raws with the new cave size settings (not quest ones, in-mountain ones) to create huge, almost world-spanning underground areas made up of many, many caves and all the critters those entail?

Anyone? Hello?

You seem to be asking for a way to make a massive network of linked caves all across the map. I doubt that's possible, but you could fiddle with the 'maximum cave size' setting in the advanced parameters to maybe make really extensive caverns.

Why not try and recreate Faerun?

 Theory:

Dwarves and Goblins create tunnels to connect their sites. There must be a tag for that. I haven't seen the new tags, so I would not know for sure.

So theoretically, you could generate a LOT of caves and set all civ's to occupy caves. Perhaps they would make tunnels between caves?

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

Code: [Select]
...
[PERMITTED_JOB:ARCHITECT]
[WORLD_CONSTRUCTION:TUNNEL]
[WORLD_CONSTRUCTION:BRIDGE]
[WORLD_CONSTRUCTION:ROAD]
[ETHIC:KILL_ENTITY_MEMBER:PUNISH_CAPITAL]
...

This one seems useful.

Edit. And this is under [ENTITY:MOUNTAIN] in entity_default file.

Hmm, sounds promising, thanks for the ideas! I'll give these a try when I get the chance...

I've never thought of giving kobolds ability to make tunnels and occupy more sites... It may be really fun.

I always give kobolds picks, leather armor, and axes and change them to [INTELLIGENT]. It makes them a lot more fun to deal with, except that they are sometimes friendly* to adventurers.
