Agony :S
« on: August 11, 2006, 06:35:00 pm »

I've recently had 2 dwarves get a single mangled injury each because of a stupid merchant bodyguard that led a bunch of unicorns smack into the middle of my fortress (2 other dwarves died). Now, instead of going to bed and resting, they run around, trying to drink/eat/do-anything but keep falling unconsious before they can get a single thing done. They're basicly flapping around like fish without water and refuse to go to bed like normal patients (although that would result in tantrums and berzerkering, no doubt). One's got a lower body injury, the other's got a head injury.

While we're at injuries, the health care in DF is terrible. :P

My last injured dwarf was left to herself in a room and no one even bothered to bring her water in a bucket. Of course, she eventually went berzerker.

I've yet to have healed a dwarf with yellow/red injuries, nothing pleases them. I throw in a chair and half a second later of being content, the dwarf throws tantrums again.

As much as this game kicks ass, it really needs medicine, euthanasia, or both. :P

Was even thinking of making an euthanasia room, which would flood dying dwarves and send them into the river. Cruel, but so is dying of hunger and thirst. :S

Dwarves that have only one broken part that doesn't throw them on the ground consider themselves "walking wounded", and only heal when they have nothing better to do.  This is clearly a little off.  Though they don't require a bedcarry, they should be resting as a high priority it seems.  In the list now.

If a dwarf gets to a bed to rest, I can give them a "happy" thought to cancel the attack anger.  Since they've been faced with death recently, it would probably be kind of relieving.  I can also give happy thoughts for being picked up and for being taken care of, assuming these things ever happen.

Well, it probably wouldn't be a problem if they only had broken limbs, but they had mangled limbs (red), which cause them to go unconcious at the slightest amount of work. Also, I've noticed that once a dwarf, who formerly had 2 broken limbs, heals 1, he still acts as though he had 2 and just lies around getting angry.

He he he, the last image is making me giggle.

So we'll work on this over the next something or other.  There is a long list of things now.

Maybe dwarves could become much happier if someone is caring for them?  Have healthcare include bringing the dwarf food, keeping them company a little, and so forth; then have this give them a big happyness boost.  Nobody likes getting a nasty wound, but having everyone in the fortress dote on them for a while would probably keep dwarves in a good mood anyway.

Yeah, that's what I said up there I think, more or less -- and it'll be in, like, tomorrow.

Happened to me once. I dont know about happines, but all work virtually stopped, they all just drop whatever they were doing and rushed to the bedroom to visit the wounded. So nothing ever got done. I abandoned.

I have got for giving food to the wounded, and watering them, and bringing them to bed, and soldiers in an active squad will station near a wounded commander, but there isn't any visiting.  Was something strange like that happening?  Civilians that weren't "on break" would go and stand next to some wounded guy and not work?

My female dwarf peasant (who I drafted as a sharpshooter because I had no one else to turn to during a mandrill attack in a supposedly Peaceful area) got her upper arm broken in the first Autumn.  It's now the third Spring and her wound hasn't healed yet.

She's been on the Rest task this whole time, throwing tantrums all the while...

Grounded (brown background) in a bed as well?  I'll check through it again.

She initially rested in the communal sleeping area for the first couple of months, but after I got some bedrooms established I assigned her one.  She continually sat in bed and slept, even throwing tantrums in her sleep, which I thought was kinda spectacular.  Occasionally she'd come out to eat plump helmets (one of her preferred foods! probably the one thing that kept her from throwing herself into the river) and tap the cask of dwarven wine.

She'd also sometimes go into one of the unassigned bedrooms and sleep there for some strange reason.  I appointed her room nicely, but she didn't like her new furniture I guess...

I think it might be my wonder math again.  If 500 divides 10080, it'll be just fine.

Or not...  hrm...  now I did have a broken right hand heal in autumn, but I'm still looking at this...  anyway, it should work when I'm done.
