difference between alpha and beta
« on: August 28, 2008, 10:26:18 pm »

well first off I'm not even sure this goes in modding but this is the most technical thread so here is my question:

1. There are two versions of dwarf fortress out right now the pretty one with lots of shapes and the more ASCII based one. besides the graphics do they have any differences?

2. Does the pretty one get updated too?

(im new here cant ya tell)

Actually, they are the same game.  The one with the pretty graphics is just using a tileset.  There are lots of tilesets, mostly user created available.

You can find out more about them at http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Tilesets, and there is a list of some of them at http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/List_of_user_graphics_sets.
