Zero Punctuation- DF.
« on: July 19, 2008, 10:32:04 pm »

How many of you watch Zero Punctuation?
Have you wished that he would review your favorite game?
Well, let's make him.

Send him an e-mail with Dwarf Fortress in the subject and ask him (politely, as usual for this crowd) to review it. He'll have to respond when he gets a 162 emails in one day about one game.

The worst thing he could do is give us free publicity.

Yahtzee will hate it, and he probably wouldn't review it anyway because it's indie and non-profit.

I'm sorry, but that's a horrible idea waiting to happen.

1. Bugging poor Yahtzee with our community won't do anything. He only sometimes reviews what people tell him to review.
2. His reviews are ment to cause some contreversy, which DF cannot spawn due to lack of overlords and pylons.
3. Do you REALLY want crowds of idiots crowding and filling our community? I mean... like... Well, you know.

Very much agreed. Let's just... avoid publicity. At least until the game is mostly finished. Or we could convince Toady to set up a second forum, and make all the links point to it, so those of us with the current forum bookmarked could continue to discuss demon carp and cannibalistic elves in peace while the rest of the internet bickers and flames outside the walls.. But that would be elitist... Wouldn't it?

On the basis that DF is not actually at the version 1 stage, it really wouldn't be a proper review. Infact, I'm pretty sure he'd be against reviewing a game that wasn't actually done yet.

I second this opinion.

He can review it when it's finished though.

He reviewed Oblivion and The Witcher.  ;)

Both of which have considerable non-internet popularity, high publicity, and are finished products.

See, now that's debatable.

Not to mention, the fellow claims to be an 'instant gratification gamer'. I can't remember seeing a review for any major RTS on his site, let alone any for an indie ASCII game with gameplay similar to dungeon keeper...

I rekon' he'd laugh at it and proclaim it shit, probably only moments after selecting 'generate new world'. That said, I like the guy's reviews, this just likley isn't his scene and would probably only generate negative feedback.

I was going to say that he probably wouldn't be that into a game as methodical as DF, but surely you've all seen his SimCity Societies review.  More than anything, he appreciates a game with depth, open possibilites, and viceral rewards for acting like a dick.

And as for disrespecting the indie community - you all do know he made 5 Days a Stranger and a bunch of other crappy looking games right?  Indie games is what made Yahtzee marginally famous enough for the Escapist to hire him in the first place.

I thought they only allow him because they can stick a pile of adds for othe videos behind each one which are all longer then the review itself.

He also reviews demos and beta's so i'd imagine that if we politely ask the escapist to make him review df we will have quite a good chance. Asking Yahtzee himself is a good way to get ignored to death.

Just avoid the spam.
It's a bad tone and not very nice idea to swarm a man with dozens of letters. If someone points him at DF he can look at it and may like it, but don't try to thrust your opinion.

But that would be elitist... Wouldn't it?

Well, we are elite, so we can be elitist if we want.

In other news, has anyone noticed a sudden influx of new, less-English-skilled persons on the forum? Not to say that they're, well, idiots; they just don't seem to be native English speakers.
Elite, really? Ew, I didn't know a lot about myself then.
And I'm not an english speaker and I am here for a while already (since the releace of 38a I guess). I hope I don't annoy you as well ( :)?).
I don't think that a person who makes mistakes or misspells some words should be called an "idiot", maybe he just had a bad english teacher is school.

I didn't call anyone an idiot, I tried to point out that they (probably) weren't.
Also, I didn't say anyone was annoying, I'm just curious as to where they all came from.
