Embark Anywhere (2013.1.25.1)
« on: July 23, 2008, 03:21:16 am »

Now to add to your OCD. You can embark anywhere you want to.

http://www.lorauwar.com/~jifodus/dl/df/embarkanywhere.zip (2013.1.25.1)

It works just like regional prospector, infact I'm using the same code that regional prospector uses to access Dwarf Fortress. Thanks 0x517A5D. Source code is included.

It is known to be working on 0.34.11 (Windows; SDL + legacy), but I expect it to work for all previous versions as well (possibly also including very old versions).

I believe embarking in normally non-embarkable mountains shouldn't have any problems. However, if you embark on pure ocean Dwarf Fortress will place the starting point in the Top Left corner at the very lowest Z-level (underground!), you also will be unable to do anything since the dwarves will be stuck there. And apparently they won't die either.

Source code:

Enjoy. :D

You're a saint.

One unfortunate side effect is that unembarkable areas have no access to anyone but the parent civ (like with islands).  But at last, a fortress on a named mountain.

So does this mean that we can finally embark on NPC dwarf settlements?

Hum... I'm going to try this, but what happens when you embark to the center of the ocean? Where does the cart go?

This plus viewing tunnels makes us that much closer to starting fortresses inside them.
