Not really a GAMEPLAY question...
« on: March 18, 2014, 12:49:27 pm »

Something in these images speaks to me, and it reminds me: I know there's a way to enable proper bearded dwarven women, but I can't remember how it's done.  What do I need to do to make that happen?

DF folder > raw > objects > creature_standard, then ctrl+f beard and you'll find this part:

[CASTE:FEMALE]
The gender tag lets it know how breeding works.
      [FEMALE]
      [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE]
To add beards, put square brackets around the following:
      BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:FACIAL_HAIR_TISSUE_LAYERS

I'm somewhat surprised that there's no Beardpunzel.

If I change that setting and load an existing fortress, will the ladies begin to grow into their hairy heritage?  What about new dwarfs (migrants, newborns, or both)?

Not sure but I think so? You'd have to change it in the same file in your save folder though :>

Awww. Changed settings in the main file and the associated save folder file, and my lady dwarfs are still bald from the ears down. :(

You should get 'body parts are misaligned, rebuilding' kind of errors in the errorlog. This means that the beard was added, but they still need to grow those and I can't quite understand how the game handles hair growth.
