Potash making problem?

I'm not sure if this applies to other materials as well but my dwarves refuse to make potash using lye from a bucket but seem to be fine using lye from a barrel. I'm pretty sure this is the case since there are lye-bearing buckets lying around right inside the ashery. Any way besides selling the buckets to get the lye in barrels?

They will eventually get around to pouring the lye into a barrel, if one's available. I think it qualifies as a food hauling job.
