so, the day that we finally get something like this:
http://spriteattack.cator.de/df/
is nearer?

not yet i think. iso view would require additional coding.

What I meant was the actual sprites as detailed as that. No more squinting to see if thats a dwarf or some really ugly goblin ;) Iso view is nice but thats for another time, I think O_o

These recent improvements are encouraging me to start working on my own tileset. However, I'm not sure what the limitations are. Would something like this be displayable?:

Also, will we be able to make graphics larger than 32*32 pixels? My artistic vision is severely limited by this small size. I reckon that 64*64 would be ideal for me.

Ah very good lookin' dwarf!  ;D

I can do a lot better in 64*64. Here's an unfinished Wesnoth unit I drew:

Obviously, it's a lot better than the 32*32 dwarf, but I'm not sure if better graphics are worth reduced number of viewable tiles. 48*48 might be a nice compromise indeed.

I think that 64x64 is too big, 32x32 should be perfectly enough...even tho 64x64 surely looks much better.

Is it possible to make the screen smaller then 80x25? If so I could probably work the window to show 32x32 squares comfortably :D

Actually, making detailed units in 32x32 space is easy, but I don't use any of those fancy pixel programs, Flash is good enough.

GIMP is where it's at.

Anyway, I've been working on some more graphics, and I just can't wait to show them off. Besides, it's better to get some feedback before making a whole set.

That's exactly what I was asking about on the previous page of this thread. What limits does DF impose unto custom graphics?

BTW, thanks for the heads-up. If I had made an entire set and only then found out it's unusable, I'd start crawling on the floor babbling.

Hehe yeah, to make good lookin 32x32 sprites you dont need to have high end paint software, even tho I have Coreldraw X4.  ;D

Say what you will, but I don't think I could live without dodge/burn.
