Holy shiiittttt.

I mean right now it's in a very basic way (check out the dev_now), and not every panel plays nicely, but me and my 1440x900 resolution have been waiting for this for a long, long time.

Praise be to Toady.

Hole. E. Shite. Yes, that feature was one of the very much sought-after, and long-awaited. I personally don't care about info screens and squeezed local maps if it allows me to at least see the full extent of my vision north/south in adventure mode.

1680x1050 resolution here (my parents went a bit overboard with my 18th birthday present, heh), and this will be the love.  I almost wish Toady would release a 39f (or even a 39e, version 2) just for this feature.   ;D

Dear Lord this needs to be released now, I don't care about anything else planned for this release, it can all wait.

Nice to have this if you have 1680x1050.
Now my question is..does this means that we could use 32x32 tilesets even, or that will come later on when Toady will separate the text/gfx stuff?

It looks like you can only increase it, not decrease it.

That is really nice!  I hope the DFMA gets updated for this, seeing DF in High Definition (lol) will be awesome.

I think it's going to make non-tile interfaces a little tougher to pull off in the future, since the ascii representation is so efficient.

Woot!  Another agreement here: best gameplay-affecting update since the z-levels appeared. :)

Those screenshots are glorious.

I wonder if this will be any kind of a frame rate hit? I am thinking no just because everything was being calculated anyway whether or not it was on the screen. Would the extra tiles cause any slow down, though?

Edit: Didn't seem to be slowing Toady down in the dev notes, hooray.

Probably not since, as mentioned, the game keeps track of the contents of tiles that are off screen already, it just has to draw more of them now, but since DF doesn't use much in the way of graphics processing it shouldn't drag down fps unless you have a REALLY sllllooooowwwww computer.

Nono, I meant bigger tilesets. Right now we use 16x16 tilesets. Example:

Tile Size  16×16
Resolution  1280×400

Right now in order to use 32x32 tilesets, the resolution must be 2560x800.
So now that Toady has changed the "display system" a bit, what resoultion would work with a 32x32 tileset?
