Can a man sleep without waking up to earth-shattering news?

As you journey to the center of the world, feel free to read the death announcements of those dwarves that suffer your neglect.

One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the cosmos. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips, I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my veins. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk and free throw.

Behold the display that was rebuilt in one day! What genius could have done this, you say? It's the Toady, Toady we praise, the man who rebuilt the display in just one day, whee! It's the Toady, Toady we praise, the man who rebuilt the display in just one day!

LURK..... less?  :D

Epic stuff. I hope to buy a Cintiq someday. Imagine fullscreen 1600X1200 DF with stylus touchscreen controls!

Probably not since, as mentioned, the game keeps track of the contents of tiles that are off screen already, it just has to draw more of them now, but since DF doesn't use much in the way of graphics processing it shouldn't drag down fps unless you have a REALLY sllllooooowwwww computer.

It *could* slow down the game, depending on your computer setup. There is CPU overhead in the drawing, as things are being rendered in immediate mode (as opposed to display lists/retained mode), and the more that is drawn, the more CPU overhead will exist. Still, it certainly a lot less drawing than typical OpenGL games, so it shouldn't be a serious issue except for a few people.

Btw, I just now tried playing with a 4x4 tileset. It's half complete and pretty ugly (not to mention tiny!), but it gets the job done. :)

Wait - we can do this now? Or is this what's coming up in the next release?

Because I'd swear I just recently tried this with 39e and it didn't work :\ Maybe I don't know what I'm doing?

I'm guessing that LordNightmare's and Zarasutra's 4x6 character sets will rise in popularity soon.

was that irony?  :D
im on 1680 and i have to press my face to the screen to read those..

my guess is that it's larger than 16x16 tilesets that will rise in popularity.

Agreed, 32x32 will be very popular amongst the players with big screen resolution. Just stay tuned for my tileset.  ;D

I have 1900x1200 resolution on my desktop moniter, and this is going to be fucking awesome. It would be nice if it could do up to 1000, or something, so that I could theoretically use 4x4 tiles and cover the whole screen. It would make for some epic worldmap viewing.

Indeed, that is the reason. But I also prefer the ASCII look to a graphic representation. The tileset is unfinished, so all the characters other than alpha-numerical remain blocky.
Any chance you'll upload the tileset when you're done with it? Although I'd love a copy now.

128sq. tileset, displayed at 1280 horiz.
Spoiler: title (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: gameplay (click to show/hide)

That shows me the reason we need different tilesets for letters and for graphics: columns. That fancy letter O at the end of your blocky walls looks bad. It would be sweet if you could get a different letter O in there that would fit better.
